This is more venting then anything...
Found out this morning coming back from spring break that my most likely starting Will linebacker not only tried out for the football cheerleading squad, but made it, and fully intends on participating in that over football...
Part of me says if he really wants to be a cheerleader he probably wasn't going to be that good of a linebacker anyway. Another part of me just wants to blow a gasket. Oh well, just another day in the office!

I feel for you coach, we lose starters in every sport to choir.
Wish I was joking.

That kid gets to hang out with girls all day instead of sweaty, smelly guys?
Football is not as important to most of our kids as it is to us....
I know it sucks for the coaches, but kids will be kids.
Just had a kid tell me he was going to "focus on baseball so he can get a scholarship." He is a junior and has never had a varsity at-bat. He would have started for us no question. I could blow up at him but for what?

Well at least this gave me a few laughs to end my day. I don't know if I'd go so far to say he made the right decision to go sniff the ladies. I figure a few big hits on friday night would be penty for the panty droppers but maybe he knows more than I do!

I had two seniors walk on me because "they were going to get basketball scholarships and couldn't afford to get hurt." I wanted to tear them up for it but there's no real point.
I did get to pop off when basketball ended though... One kid was lucky to play 3 minutes a game and the other wasn't even looked at by the tribal colleges to play ball. I pointed both of those facts out when they were dumb enough to start talking about football in my classroom.

As a gambling man I am willing to bet there is a {censored} cat doll who he likes and is on the cheer squad.

I could blow up at him but for what? You could call his bluff, contact his parents and show them the NCAA equivalency rules (basically showing that baseball does not give "full scholarships". Of course, chances are if he doesn't want to play..he woudnt be all that productive for you.

To quote Lattimer from The Program:
I don't know, its the battle, the going to war with the other guys, hanging together, having our own dorm, staying in hotels the night before the games, setting ourselves apart, being different than everybody else, having a chance to be somebody, to do something that people look up to you for, your strength, your courage, not everybody can play football... were the lucky ones
I guess he was right....especially about male cheerleaders.....LOL

That took a little while to get over.

My buddies coach at a local school thats in a district with open enrollment. All the athletes go elsewhere. The thespians get bussed from all over the city to go to this school. The attendance to the class plays is higher than the football games... ouch

the censoring protocols have stayed fairly intact since day one here
a lot of people look at this site on school computers and don't need to have certain language that can be used for things pop up
I always get a kick out of seeing the term "thingy" too ;D

Unless he was #11 on your 11 man squad then screw him, let him go you're better off. What do you even say to that? HeII - of course he made it. They all think it's great when a boy wants to be a cheerleader in HS. If he can do spirit fingers he's in. That's what pi$$es me off the most. Boys don't even have to be good at it. They will make it no matter what just because they are a guy. - That's BS. Whatever... I was almost there; player #9 on an 8-man roster. I kicked his sorry butt off of the team for lying to me about missing practice.

Last season I had a kid quit to "spend more time with his girl friend" I contacted his mom (which I usually do so that the kid doesn't tell the parents hes at practice and actually up to no good) and she told me that his girl friend was very important to him. That girl was pregnant before the play-offs began. Every time I bump into his mom she tells me how much she should have made him stay out for football. Yeah no Duh.

The "Thingy" is undefeated. PERIOD. Indeed. Just ask Bobby Petrino. This game isn't for everyone. Inevitably, some kids decide one day that they just don't want it anymore. The excuses they offer are comical, because as teens they generally are lousy liars. (My 15 year old son is the worst actor in the world - he can't get away with anything due to his complete inability to tell a good story. ;D) I had a kid tell me recently that, "this year just isn't a good time, pretty hectic with stuff..." at which point his voice trailed off and he started looking at the ground. Sure, you bet, son - 15 year olds have really demanding schedules, which is why they spend hours on Facebook telling everyone how bored they are. The fire had simply gone out for this kid, and he didn't want to play anymore. It's tragic, as he was a hell of an athlete, but that's show business - another kid who wants to be there will now be happy to have that playing time. Now that I am older, I am far more accepting of this than I was as a young coach, when this kind of conversation would have caused me to go off like a roman candle. My body is falling apart, but I am getting a tiny bit smarter...
