I thought the A11 offense was dead? What is this about?

It's not dead if you make a league and write your own rules.

I have no idea what crowdfunding is but I can't see this being successfull. The last start up league had real former football players and coaches (UFL?) playing real football. Whose buying season tickets to glorified 7 on 7?

According to the font of knowledge (Wikipedia) its basically getting lots of people to donate what they can. Panhandling in the digital age, for the cynic.
If he hadn't gotten cute with the numbering loophole, we'd have called him a genius. Also if he wasn't a jerk.

So, it's passing the hat?

The best part is that the word INNOVATIVE was leading in the headline, the 9th word in the press release was used twice in the release, and listed as keyword for internet search purposes. Gotta work that in. The offense is innovative, the funding is innovative.... but, I say good for Kurt. I agree with CClement. The snakeoil feeling is what will bring kurt down, but I applaud his effort. We kept telling him it was a different sport... and he is taking the appropriate measures to try and get that sport going.

crowd funding is basically asking the crowd to donate money to support the present cause - passing the hat.
it is done on small scales all over, and on large scales as well.
basically, asking people that support what you are doing to donate money so you can continue your efforts. they expect nothing substantial or direct in return, other than you to continue doing the project you are doing.
it differs from advertising or investing. advertisers, sponsors, and investors are expecting some type of direct benefit from the money they have given. a sponsor/advertiser wants visibility & exposure - which they hope will lead to an increase in sales or revenue. An investor wants a monetary return - a repayment plus interest - on the money they have given.
a crowdfunding campaign is simply supportive people giving money to support that cause. we have done it here in the past - just haven't made any mention of it in quite some time (probably at least 3 years or more).
basically, a crowdfunding campaign is... "we have this thing we want to do (or, are currently doing) but we need some monetary help to get it going (or keep it going). you are part of our supportive 'crowd', will you help us?"

Huey, do you think the infomercial style "WE ARE INNOVATIVE, WE ARE THE FUTURE, BE ON THE CUTTING EDGE" style of marketing will clash with the more grassroots message you stated? I think KB is missing a golden opportunity to capitalize on the current head injury issues with traditional football. If he got rid of the hard shells went to softer and more protective headgear... and truly tried to codify sandlot football with tackling..I think he would be more successful
