I like the Backs/TE method. I think that gives the players something tangible to relate too, rather than subjectively chosen terms such as colors, card names, mascots etc.

Single - 2 Backs, 1 TE, 2 Wr Double - 1 Back, 2 TE, 2 WR Triple - 1 Back, 1 TE, 3 WR Tractor - 2 Back, 2 TE, 1 WR
The biggest thing that I use personnel for is that I currently have a stud TE, and personell groupings allow me to put him anywhere on the field without changing and introducing a ton of new formations,
If I am in single people, and I call PRO, he is my TE. But say I go to Tractor and call Pro, that will split him wide by himself.
I can call for single grouping, and get into 2X2 with my TB and TE, split out, who are probably the two best recievers I have.
Like I said, more of a tool to get people where I want them, without doing a ton of stuff new.

We have fourteen different personnel groupings. However they are never anything big like if we want our X receiver or Z receiver in with our two tight two back grouping. Or if we want a tb or fb in with our 10 or 11 groupings. Not much changes play wise, except for the fact that when we have our FB in the game we can run some fb belly and trap plays. This was an idea our head coach had ,and wanted to emply after we talked and I ahd gotten the job. I have about seven personnel groupings, and then he came up with seven more to get the FB involved more,as we are a spread team but have a couple FB's. We used them all in spring ball, and it went pretty well. So we will be keeping them all for this fall. Gota do what the head man wants
