Last year we did a mandatory practice jersey, shirt and shorts. We left the option open for sweaters, seat pants, polos and hats.

We just get grey t-shirts and shorts with our school name and logo. The players are required to wear these whenever we practice with no pads, so beginning of pre-season and days before games.

The "Spirit Pack" for us is just shorts and shirt that we wear to the 7on7 tournaments over the summer... as far as what do we give kids when they do our fundraiser in May:
1) Practice Jerseys x 2 ($100 total) ..........One green, one white with number screen printed on front and back ..........Frosh/Soph and JV use for game jerseys 2) Game Cleats ($90) ..........Team design cleat that we wear on Friday nights 3) Game Socks ($10) ..........Team design sock that we wear on Friday nights 4) 5-Pad Girdle ($75) ..........The days of tracking hip, tail, and thigh pads are over. 5) Chin Strap ($20) ..........Hard chinstrap that all the kids want. The old ones that are black from nasty sweat each year are for kids that don't raise enough money...lol 6) Mouthpiece ($5) ..........Kids can choose 2 of the "normal" ones or 1 of the next level up (still less than $5) 7) Spirit Pack ($100) ..........Custom made, sublimated, kids design them for our 7on7 uniforms
Minimum for the May fundraiser is $400 per player. They earn all the above items. There are extra rewards for them at $500, $750, $1000, $1250, and $1500 raised.
We do the gold-cards in August and they can earn their team sweatpants and sweatshirt, which is also designed by the kids, embroidered, and has all the bells and whistles.

Compression shirts and a pair of shorts. Costs them about $32. We take care of those who can't afford it. They wear them for 7 on 7 competitions and linemen competitions and wear them to Thursday practices.
At my last school, where we had almost all of them in weight training together, they wore them there as well. We're working on getting to that point here.

If a kid brings in $50+ for our Lift-a-Thon fund raiser he gets T-shirt and shorts.
If they bring in $100+, they get a hoodie too.
We also give them game socks for a "uni-form."

We give the whole team shorts and t-shirt at the end of 2 a days, paid for by the boosters. don't use the term spirit pack around here, it's just team shirt and shorts. We go through a local sports store that can get us what ever we need and any kind of custom art work we want. We did travel suits and shoes one year but it was a huge PIA so we don't anymore. Everything else is provided by the school for no cost, practice jersey, mouth pieces, socks etc...

Wow. Things are different everywhere, I guess. For our off-season athletic period, we issue an ugly ass grey t-shirt and shorts. Then we make em even uglier by writing their name on them in magic marker. Kids also get a laundry belt to attach their cloth to. Sure expedites and simplifies the process everyday. We save our money for game attire. this stuff is our "work clothes". More than one way to skin a cat, I guess...

Are you kidding? I didn't realize until now what people meant by "spirit pack." We wore decommissioned game jerseys or old hockey jerseys and washed our own stuff whenever we felt it was appropriate (some more than others).
Where I am now, I guess it would be a plain practice jersey and a pair of game socks. Occasional t-shirts.

I posted because we are looking to build it into our fees: t-shirt, shorts, hoodie, sweats, girdle, game sox.
I guess I also should have asked how much are your player fees? Right now ours are at 300 they get the spirit pack plus a list of fees for the school. Out of the 300 the program keeps 100/ player for stuff like sleds, bags,
What do u guys do?

With our Under Armour deal, the price-tag on the stuff we get adds up to the $400 above, but we end up only paying a % of that $400. It ends up being about $100-$125 that we get to use for gear. I'm going to have to look into what we can do with our participation fee at the school. It had been $65 for the last few years, but with gas costs going up and everything else, the district just jumped it to $150. Haven't sat down with my staff and parents and gone over what we want to do with that yet.
School next to us in our district has $800 as their "fees" for football. Last year they ended up cutting 50 kids. That is $40,000 that their program had to buy stuff with. I don't cut kids. If they cut themselves that is fine. Before I got here there was just a T-shirt and shorts in the spirit pack and the parents were responsible to pay for anything else they wanted. I have kind of set it up so that if the players want something, they can vote it into the pack, but they understand that they are now responsible for raising the money for it. Last year we did not have the girdles or the chinstraps as part of the pack, many of the kids went out and bought their own girdles and wanted the hard chinstraps so this year they all just said that they would rather fundraise for them and then they can get under armour ones. All the returning players voted and it was about 90% in favor of adding the $100 to their fundraising so they could get those items. I have a small group of my kids that are already talking about adding gloves next year. I don't think that will ever get enough votes out of the kids, but if it does, we will end up adding it.

Lot of factors to consider as mentioned above. What is the cost of fees? How many kids does the family have in the program?
We have done in the past an order form for shorts, shirts, hoodies, etc. with team logo on them.
We also work a package through our supplier (adidas, under armour, nike, etc.) where we get some items discounnted and allow them to build their own packages. These include cleats, girdles, mouthpieces, gloves, dry-fit or compression gear, etc.

We have an athletic fee of $60, but we never saw that money (but baseball sure as H did)
Riddell is letting us set up a store once we buy our white unis. They let you sell packs like t-shirt + shorts + girdle for $40 or whatever. It's a great deal, very low cost obviously.
In the future I'm hoping the $60 athletic fee can be used to get us, God forbid, buses to games and team meals.
