For guys who are coaching HS ball in Virginia: How have the new offseason rules affected you? Have you guys done anything yet that you wouldn't have been able to do before?
For us the only thing has been this idiotic dead period. We were just getting rolling in the weight room when....{SCREEEEEECH!!!!}.. two freakin weeks off!.
How about you guys?

well before I got let go, we had some team activities planned that we would not have been able to do..also in the summer you can basically practice every single day with helmets after the 4th..I was planning to have my whole offense in and not going two hard practices a day in the summer..I think its a real game changer..we were going to lift for an 60-75 min and then go out on the field..during doubles, have a morning practice in the cool and lift/meet inside during the heat..right now in our region we can practice 15 x before july 4th..we would have certainly done that..before we had 4 days of "camp" some 7 on 7..

The Central Region ADs thought they would set the standard, so their original proposal was to allow 2 hours 3 days a week. For everything, including lifting and conditioning. Quite a brilliant leap backwards.
Fortunately it was re-evaluated, now we can lift and condition as we did before and work with sport-specific skills 2 (or maybe it was 3, i forget) days a week for an hour and a half per session. No gear of any kind, just a ball, sure hope a kid doesn't get his head banged in a drill
Net net we'll be where we were, with a chance to get a little better skill wise for stuff you can do with a ball for the so-called skill guys and feet and hands for the real skill guys.
So basically getting to the playoffs will be the culmination of a great year for those in the central unless somebody has a phenomenal group of athletes.

Here is our schedule for March - august
March - April
Workout M-Wed - Thurs
Tuesdays - Football stuff after school. QB WR/Routes, OL / TE Blocking stuff...
Basically 8 days of install stuff there... Indy, reps..
May
Monday - Lift Tuesday - Practice Wednesday - Lift Thursday - Practice
We will get 8 offensive practices in the month of may. Install our offense twice. Practice are about hour and 15 minutes. Warm UP Indy - 15 Group - 15 7 on 7 - 10 Team - 15 COND
We will film them and correct mistakes.
Have a four day install in month of June for whole team - offense/defense/SPTMS. 2 hours after school every other day 2nd week in June.
July Team Camp at JMU 4 More installs there in shells
So we are just spacing it out and doing kind of the NFL Philosophy and College. May is like spring ball (No hitting). March/April/June/July we have minicamp/OTA stuff..
One thing with our schedule from March - August
Players are off Fridays - Saturdays - Sundays (3 day weekend) Every weekend Through August. Keep them fresh. No Fridays and No Saturdays.
Worked well for us last year.
Our offense is on a 4 day install. So we will repeat our install 4 times (Twice in ma, once in June and once July) before we report in August. We should be good come August.

How about you guys? also not sure of the exact rule, but the way they were going to enforce it here was...the week before spring tryout... lifting only..the week of spring tryout, dead period....at least at this school, unbelievably, they were allowing kids to basically have unsupervised "captain" practices on our fields in other sports..couldn't believe it
