It's almost that time of the year when all the clinics start up for coaches. Who are your favorite coaches to go listen to?
Being an offensive coach I love Noel Mazzone, but have never seen him in person, and GA Mangus (QB coach from South Carolina) is really entertaining.

I heard Chris Simington a few years ago. He is the oline coach @ Colorado state-pueblo. He is a pretty intense guy, and pretty informative. He really has a passion for what he is doing.

Looking forward to hearing Chad Morris of Clemson. This is his first year in SC, and I am sure that he will make the Clemson clinic well worth attending. You now add Vernerables to the mix, and I'm sure that will be one of the better clinics.

Anyone planning on going to the Max Miller Clinic in Reno? Is it any good? Our staff is going this year!

If you are an OL coach and ever have the chance to see Ken Wilmesher from Grossmont College, you should do so. Very intense and thorough. Demonstrates a lot of techniques and equipment that you can use. He is very into it and when he finishes, he sometimes looks like he just climbed out of a swimming pool. Very great speaker.

The two best I have ever heard were Larry Johnson (D-line), formerly from Penn State and Maurice Linguist (DB) from James Madison.

I can't list all the speakers I have ever enjoyed because the list would be too long. But here are the first four that popped in my brain:
Pat Fox Tony DeMeo Chuck Apap Tim Murphy
All four had great information, and were well prepared with good stories to tell as well. Murph also brought with a top notch sales team to help with purchasing his DVDs.

I thought Johnson was out. Smart move to retain him. He is the real deal.

Todd Graham (ASU) Darrell Hazell (Kent State) Jim Tressel (former OSU HC) James Franklin (Vanderbilt) Brady Hoke (Michigan) Butch Jones and Kerry Combs (Cincinnati)
The above seven are special because of their talks on philosophy, leadership, philosophy, etc.
Looking forward to seeing the following this year.
Bobby Petrino (Arkansas) Pat Fitzgerald (Northwestern)

Mark Speckman has had more of an impact than anyone else on the way that I coach. He was a standout HS coach here in Central CA, went to a D-III in Oregon, and now is back at local Menlo College. Great humor, loads of useful info, highly organized.
Last year I heard Todd Graham and Chip Kelly and took a ton from both.

Darin Slack and Dub Maddox from QBA are two of the best. Dub's coming to Northern VA this weekend and I couldn't be happier. Chris Malone (OL - JMU) was really good when I heard him a couple of years ago. I'm looking forward to Dabo Swinney's talk on WR play this year.

My 2 cents would be to go to the better topics than a "big name" speaker if you don't have any inside tips that he's a good speaker. Some of the big timers don't put in the time and mail it in. Unfortunately, Noel Mazzone came across that way to me, as did Jim Tressel. Great to see somebody else mention Pat Fox on here, he is a fantastic speaker, well-prepared, and does a great job. Heard Bill Shackelford, HS coach from Georgia this past weekend and he was awesome as well.

Vanderlinden was pretty good. So was Gunther Brewer speaking on receiver play, even those his topic names scared a lot of people off.
I'm hoping to hear a good offensive line coach. I heard the Cincinnati Bengals OL coach, and I came back entertained and with a few tips, but when I look back on it I wasn't as impressed as I could have been.
I like coaches that provide me with actionable material, stuff that can make an impact on the way I coach everyday. Maybe it's a saying to help remember how to execute a technique or assignment.

George DeLeone was the best college guy I ever heard. He spoke at San Angelo when he was the OC at Syracuse about 7 or 8 years ago.
I honestly enjoy listening to good high school speakers moreso than the college/pro guys. It's neat to hear them, but the high school guys are where it's at.

Bobby Petrino (Arkansas) Pat Fitzgerald (Northwestern) I really second that about Todd Graham.(Haven't heard the other coaches) As much stuff that has been throw his way, I would just say still go and hear him speak. I heard him in Denver last year and I really took some things from him, and looking back on his talk I can see maybe why he left Pitt. I'm not trying to turn this into a Todd Graham discussion, but he is a heck of a speaker.

A guy in OK has a clinic in his barn in the middle of nowhere and he got him to come and speak (he coached with him in NAIA). Don't remember much as the adult beverages were flowing freely!

Heard Paul Pasqualoni and Dave Solazzo this past month. Both incredibly intense and no nonsense. Pasqualoni talked about running a program which was awesome. Pulls no strings and is completely honest. Tells it like it is. Solazzo talked about DL play. His enthusiasm for the position oozes out of him. You can tell he wants his kids to be the best possible. I would highly recommend both!
