the NFL boring? At least from an x and o perspective? I just watch it to see the "wow, look at that athlete" kinda stuff.
The x and o's of most of it bores me, mainly because it is all the same.
Thoughts?

I only like to watch "my team" in the NFL, but I will watch any college game. Different type of offenses make it better to watch, plus it is great to see young athletes playing at such a high intensity level and not getting paid.

lots of recycling....I think the main thing that makes football interesting for fans is the personalities.....
by the time you've made it to the NFL, you've got thousands of folks that have seen / heard about you from college.
I don't get entertained by seeing something new from the NFL, but I do get a kick out of the execution of the things each team does well...
Not a fan of Atlanta, but I can't get enough of watching their oline work (okay, so I am a fan of Chicago) but I enjoy their front 7 hustle. Not a fan of Manning, but I enjoy watching the firing on all cylinders when he mans their offense. etc.

Thoughts? I agree. I am a big Dolphin fan but I am not a big fan of the pro game itself. And like mentioned before I can watch any college football game and enjoy it.

I find the college games to be more exciting. The NFL games are starting to be kind of boring for me. i will still watch an occasional pro game.
Enjoy

if it wasn't for the fantasy league that is put on by one of our retired coaches who still lives in town, I would not follow the NFL hardly at all.

I agree with the above. The NFL is pretty vanilla. Everyone is more or less running the same stuff. In college, you will see a bit of everything both offensively and defensively.

watch the nfl to see how matchups are exploited ... how they attack each other. the whole thing is so specific... ie blitzes so specific to the protection and who "is the left tackle" or "the lb that is blitzing" ... and which receiver is matched up vs which corner, etc.
not a big fan of it and don't watch too much of it (due mainly to working on sunday afternoons) but it does present a lesson on how to use your personnel vs their personnel.
college game is exciting in the diversity you have in schemes. matchup game still a part, but now it is more about " run this 'cus they're playing cover 2" or "get in this front 'cus they are running this" etc.

College and HS provide you the widest variety of schemes. You can get a flavor of the spread, or the midline, etc. The schemes themselves and the level of detail is a bit elementary compared to what they do in the NFL.
The only thing I find frustrating about watching the Pros (and any football on TV) are the camera angles. There's so much going on on every play, and the details are so beyond what is going on on Saturday, but it's hard to see with the angles. Now, the college teams have caught up in sophistication of ideas--schemes, etc--but the Pros spend so much more time (And money) that it is just constant battles within the battles. It's a shame it is so hard to get a hold of good Pro film, because that stuff is great to learn from.

I enjoy watching college football more than pros. I'll still watch pros anytime its on, but college games mean so much more than pro games because the steelers were the last seed in the playoffs and still won it al. No playoff actually makes college football more exciting week to week. One thing on the pro football though, did you see that reverse that the jets ran in the preseason with brad smith scoring the TD? Did you see the block that Ferguson laid 30 yards downfield? Thats hustle for a Offensive tackle to get that far down field to really lay a block, it was a thing of beauty.

I love football...
All football... from youth league to the pro bowl...
Don't know what you guys are talking about in regards to boredom...
I mean, running zone, to calling screens, to standing in the pocket with the zone blitzes coming, and players moving at 100 mph... nothing boring about that...
In regards to college vs pros... no comparison... they are both great for their own reasons, college, because of its big plays, differing talent levels, coaches needing to scheme...
The pros, because of the level playing field, almost everyone is great, big hits, and great play calling...
I can't see how football men, could ever find the game boring.

College all the way...X & O's in the NFL are pretty much the same on the offensive side....West Coast Passing, Zone Run, & Power Run.

I tend to agree with the "vanilla" aspect of the NFL; I still pull for my team but agree that the most intriguing and fun matchups are in college. Going to see Air Force vs. Navy in October in Colorado Springs. Now that will be a lot of FUN (Plus, I'll have my notebook along...)

I don't find the NFL borring but I do find it to be more vanilla than college. I like the match-ups and the speed. I like to watch my team (Da Bears) and then ESPN at night to catch all the highlights. I prefer the college game b/c of the offenses but there are college teams I won't watch b/c they are so vanilla too. I like the watch the option teams (when the two that are left are actually on TV).

LJ is going to smash the record this year...and IM a raiders fan...oh yeah, thats why hes going to smash the record, they play the raiders twice and they stink. sigh.

It would get interesting again if they would WIDEN the NFL field about 10-15 yards, too much speed in the NFL on the current field for any kind of perimeter run game.

I still enjoy both the NFL and college. I just love football. I also agree with what someone else said about youth and highschool games also. The thing I like about college is the atmospher seems more intense. The players are playing with alot more passion than you see in the NFL.

to me, the best NFL week is the afc/nfc title weekend. thats the best. the nfl can be quite boring i think because, free agency has made rooting for a team (basically a jersey color) tough since the players bounce around so much...it used to be so cool and the characters were so much better back in the late 70s and 80s. now, its so much about "me" and the whole team concept is gone from most places....THAT is what makes college nad high school ball superior in my mind, the team concept, playing for pride and tradition...finally, the xs and os of the college and hs game are so much better with the option game, misdirection and power. the typical NFL stand and dance withem blocking drives me crazy. hard to find a play where holding isnt rampant. btw, if i hear one more time that "misdirection doesnt work in the NFL because the defenders are so fast" I might puke...i see misdirection and it works fine, they just dont pride themselves on great fakes or use misdirection near enough.
finally, what makes the NFL more interesting to me is what someone else said, fantasy football. we used to do a keeper league where we had to manage a 49 man roster and could trade future draft choices ( we did a 12 round college draft!) and we didnt draft entire defenses, we had to actually have corners, safeties, inside backers, outside backers etc...it was sweet! but man, it was alot of work. i knew everything about players back then (late 80s)...btw, i once traded a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick for TERREL OWENS after id seen him play in the Blue Gray all star game...noone else had any clue who he was and they thought i was nuts. I also paid big bucks to get Priest Holmes on my roster as a free agent before he was on the chiefs...yeah, thats what made it fun, you had to SEE GREATNESS before they became great. (on the down side, i traded up to draft Dan teh bust McGwire)

I find myself feeling the same way in regards to the nfl, I enjoy watching my team play , but I don't go out on a limb to watch it all day.
However, I really enjoy the college game. The multiple "O" and "D" schemes is what i'm more attracted too.
