"You don't score 70 points by being good on offense," Holgorsen said. "You score 70 points by being good on all three sides of the ball."
A refreshing way to speak for those in the Air-Raid family. Looking at things from a program perspective over just an offense perspective. Shouldn't have surprised me considering his development of downhill running and play-action in the air-raid. Makes the whole package tougher to defend and services your own defense.
I'm in the air-raid family and I recently made some mistakes in my first head coaching position that have now been corrected basically by addittion of this perspective that Dana is demonstrating now.
I think Mike Leach has been watching Holgo and Dykes and will implement some things at Washington State that weren't going on a TTU.

Lots to say about that game but it shows the good -- and the bad -- about the up-tempo. About halfway through the second quarter Clemson is about to score, then they fumble and it is run back for a 99 yard touchdown.
BUT - Clemson kicks a field goal and cuts it to 8 with about 5 minutes left in the second half. Get a stop and they can maybe tie the game before half. Instead WVU scores a TD, and then Clemson in no-huddle goes three and out, then WVU scores, then Clemson turns it over, then WVU scores, and then Clemson turns it over with about a minute to go and WVU scores again.
WVU couldn't have scored like that without being up-tempo, but Clemson probably doesn't get outscored 35-3 without going three and out and turning it over 3 times trying to play the same tempo game. Holgorsen has done a decent job this year slowing it down when his offense wasn't sizzling. They were last night though.
Also, re: the original poster: I think taking a broader view is something that Holgorsen has done a better job of as the season has gone on. Sonny Dykes does a good job at LaTech. But it's the difference between running the O and running the team. Dana isn't Vince Lombardi but it certainly was improvement.

On the other hand WV slowed the tempo down when it suited them to do so.
