For the first time in forever, we actually have enough players to do an intersquad (not just a Shellacking of the JV at the hands of the varsity---but tomorrow night, under the lights, us vs. them, even contest).........we will split up teams evenly, putting JV linemen across from JV linemen, and varsity across from varsity.........Our OC and I are heading up our white team...........I'm pretty pumped
Wondering what you other small school guys do for intersquad scrimmages?

We want the first offense operating together for cohesion so we wouldn't split them up. We'll go first off vs first def, first off vs second def, first def, vs second off, etc.

We are also a small school so for us its "The Best against the rest!' Like wingman, we want our #1's to work together to create a smooth running machine. After they get enough reps, we'll start to sub. Usually it only take a couple of sustitutions a key positions to create a modified #1 vs a decent scout defense so everybody gets plays.

SMall school -- we can't go much #1's against #2's. We do sometimes on offense but if our #1's are on defense we don't have enough good #2 linemen to protect our Qb or rbs. We go mostly "thud" while #1's are on defense. To get a good workout for the #1's LB and DBs we'll sub the #3 at DL and put together a good OL. Allows the #2 offense to get some plays off. We also use 1/2 a lot - good for competition - bad for seeing the whole field and misdirection.

Perhaps I should reiterate (or iterate in the first place) We aren't 2 deep at every position...........we took and divided up teams as evenly as possible (since we run the balanced D of 4-2 and the balanced O of double slot, this worked well) Our varsity kids were blocking other varsity kids.........our varsity slots were running against our varsity lb's.......now, when we passed, it looked good, because the varsity slot was going out against the JV side, but it was pretty close. Our stud DT is also our starting OG, and on defense, he got to work out that newbie at the other OG (he held his own quite nicely) Now, our JV OC kept running his varsity FB at our JV side , but you can't make it perfect. If you have 44 warm bodies on your team, I suggest you try this, you really get some good competition before you first scrimmage-----we learned a ton about our guys

I do like that idea, dubber, and will run it by my HC. But, we are starting a lot of new people on our first O, so I'm guessing he will want the first O getting as many reps together as possible.
