That dude is a mess! I used to coach at one of the other prep schools mentioned in the article and I can tell you that they would stand alone without the PG football/basketball programs. They are military-based college preparatory schools, not D1 football player factories. The issue is that many of the newer prep schools (like NCTech) are thrown together and run by street agents, guys with no business coaching young men. If you are a coach who has a legit kid that needs academic prep then you should contact the coaches and go visit them. www.hargrave.eduwww.forkunion.com

my Qb last year received a TON of letters, phone calls etc from NC Tech Prep. he's a D-1 recruit who wasnt going to qualify. he also has a learning disability. his mother thought that this prep school maybe a good option for him, and was in several discussions with the coach there. i asked her to inquire about any special needs accomodations that could be made for her son. the coach danced around the question and kept telling her about the tuition and how he would give her a "great deal". thankfully she got the same vibe from him that i was getting... that he was a hustler. her son is now enrolled at a juco which has assigned him a tutor to assist and oversee his academic progress. any letters or calls from this "prep" school to kids in our program will be ignored from now on. can't believe someone would play with kids futures like that. what a shame.

Did not click the link but watched it on Outside the Lines yesterday, the reporter brings up that he claims putting 325 kids in college programs since '06 in his recruitment letters and dude gets rather perturbed. Says something to the effect of "Why are you focusing on picky numbers, I'm not responding to that because I have put a ton of kids in college. Stop focusing on the numbers." He also claims to be a three time national champion and when she says he doesn't belong to any organization how is he a national champ his response is "Well we don't so I can say it if I want." Classy dude!
This is exactly why it is so important that us as coaches teach our kids about these programs and what is needed for going to college and playing. Recruiting nights, emails, letters, constantly talking, etc. so the number that get sucked into these things is greatly diminished. Unfortunately, regardless of what we do there will always be someone out there that tries to make money off of other peoples dreams and people that are so blinded by their ambition or not educated of what it takes that they will fall for the promises. How this guy isn't shut down and in jail is beyond me.
