I was interested to see what types of offenses and defenses were run by teams playing for state titles. Wanted to see if there was a trend or if it is varied around the country. You can name the state if you want and add different divisions. In Massachusetts, from what I saw in Eastern Massachusetts
D1- I and 4-3 1A- Spread (pass 1st) and 4-4 D2- Spread (pass 1st) and 4-3 2A- Spread (even) and 3-3 D3- Multiple and 5-2 3A- Flexbone and 4-4 D4- I and 4-4 4A- Power I (2-tight) and 5-3 5- Spread and 4-3

I (just gave it to Duke Johnson) and an even front 6a: multiple. mostly I and spread formations (ran the ball a ton). 3-4 if i remember correctly 7a: spread to run and even front 8a: Air raid type O, and 3-4

Was the alignment you saw just an adjustment to what Winnfield was doing?

California state game summary:
Have an OL/DL that's bigger and skilled guys that are faster. Result: SoCal 4-1 with the only W being De La Salle smacking around a spread team. NorCal teams were consistently undersized at the OL/DL and out-matched in terms of speed.
As I recall the matchups went like this, winners bolded Open: SBV/4-3/4-4 vs Spread 4-4 D-I: DW/3-3 vs 10 personnel UC/4-4/4-3 D-II: Pro IZ/OZ/3-3 vs Spread/4-4 D-III: 'Pro'/4-4 vs Spread/4-4 D-IIII: 2 back UC/3-4 vs Spread/4-4
Lotta WRs (although most of them were just decoys), lotta 4 man lines that adjust to single/2 back by going 2/1 high.

WV
AAA - Spread & Odd Stack- Heavy QB running team, they sometimes get into Wing T sets. AA - Wing T & 4-4 but were in a lot of 6-2 looks with the OLB walked up. A - Spread Option & 4-4 - QB run based.

julien - each state does things a bit differently in how they label each division. Here in Virginia, AAA Division 6 is the largest, followed by AAA D5, AA D4, AA D3, A D2, and A D1. In Michigan, It's just divisions 1-8, with 1 being the largest classification and 8 being the smallest. Other places do A, B, C, D with A being the largest and D the smallest. All in the semantics, really.

SD: The big class champ was no-huddle spread and 4-3 cover 2 the runner-up was no-huddle spread and 3-4 multiple coverages. I dont know for sure about the smaller classes but most of them run some variation of the wing-t or dbl slot.

Those are the classifications here in MT. AA is the largest, C is the smallest with 6 and 8 man teams. I have no idea how to even classify what the 6-man champ ran so I didn't put it up. Fairview won the state title running the 8-man Pistol version of the Wild-Bunch. It's different from the 11-man version in a few ways but not by much.

smu92, i thought union ran a 4-3?
every class championed zoned blocked everything, inside/outside, ctr trey, a little trap, some used a wham back some not, even if they did throw a lot during the season they ran it down peoples throat in the playoffs
def seemed to be even fronts with odd/zone blitz on passing downs
bottom line was every state champ in oklahoma played tough azz defense and controled the clock by running it and taking shots off of playaction with a few screens

Multiple I, 4-4 Wing-t, 4-4 Multiple I, 4-3 Multiple, Pro I, 3-4 Pistol, 4-3
Many teams in our area do not have a specific "system" on offense. most are what i would call multiple, meaning 21, 11, 22 personnel. mix in some gun and some double tite stuff. a few teams are strictly wing-t, and a few more are 100% spread. but for most teams its hard to nail down a specific type of O.
