Our staff is going to meet montly to review our films from last year. Our plan is to bounce questions off of each other to make sure we are sound in all areas and to begin preparing for next season.
Do you do anything like this? If so, what are your goals for your meetings? What type of structure do you have? Do you assign parts of the film for certain coaches to view? Does your OC/DC only watch the Off/Def?
I'm just trying to go into this meeting with a few goals and clear objectives. Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Does your practice time reflect what you are calling in the game. This is my main goal in the off-season. How are we coaching technique? You see what you coach. What are they doing to take away fill in the blank. Lastly, we try and have a coach be an "expert" against each of the teams we play. So when that week comes next season he's got the floor.

i have been trying to get this going for our staff the last 2 years however, the HC has failed to follow through. I completed this last year individually and broke everything down and reviewed everything during the prep week. This year we struggled defensively and I am working more closely with the DC.
We are going to look at the following:
1. How was our breakdown of our opponents offense viewed on game night? Did they do what we thought they were going to do?
2. What did our practice plan look like? Were we efficient in practice?
3. What were our mistakes according to the film? Grade levels then positions.
4. What were our adjustments? Were they effective or ineffective?
5. What do we need to change for the following year?

I wish we did this as a staff. I have asked several times to set-up time to do this starting after the 1st of the year but have been met with non-committal answers. Kind of important to me...I have already gone thru my position film multiple times and have about 1/2 a notebook full of notes - esp as they relate to my returners.

Thanks for the replies so far. One of the things we want to do as a staff is make sure we are sound in all three areas of the game. For instance, I'm the DC and I may ask the OC why we did [Blank]. He then needs to be able to justify why we did it that way. If he can't, then maybe we need to find another way to do something.

Raiderx, Have you discussed your ideas with the HC? What is his stance of the meetings?

Raiderx, Have you discussed your ideas with the HC? What is his stance of the meetings? -- yep, still no answer...will hit it up again after the break. I think he just wanted to get off season kicked off before we start move any focus back to last season.

"Because our best fricken runningback is playing safety".

We meet as a staff monthly all year long so program-wise we are all on the same page. I am the OC so I have been meeting with the offensive staff weekly or bi-weekly to discuss aspects of our offense that were weak or non-existent. For instance, today I am meeting with the RB coach and OL coach to discuss the zone play. After the break, we will move on to the trap, and so on. My quarterbacks and I have begun meeting and watching game film, dissecting each play. What was the result? Why did this happen? What was the QB's mindset? etc. Then I am comparing year one game-by-game with year two to assess areas of improvement and areas that need attention. Once I catelog all weaknesses, I will review practice plans to see if those areas were given the attention needed or to see if those are things to throw out all together. I am also still conducting post-season "exit interviews" with my coaches along with getting film to schools (lobbying for my seniors). All in all, this is a busy time of the year that those not involved closely with the program don't realize.

shields, you sound like a coach I would love to work with. It is always busy and if your not getting better daily someone else is.
