I'm interested in what Coaches give to their players for game week. I am in the process of building a DVD duplicator, and I plan on burning game films of our opponents, and giving them to the players on the Monday preceeding the game. Does anyone else do this, or do you feel it is not worth the time and energy. I coach in the inner city of Philadelphia, and most of my players have some type of Play Station or X Box. The reason I say this is because not many of my players have a computer. I know that they would be able to watch the films on their game machines. Any other comments would be appreciated.

99% of my kids would just just let the DVD's collect dust, while they play MADDEN on the PS or XBOX. If a kid specifically comes and asks for tape so he can study, then I will give him one. Other than that...I just get coaches copies.

Absolutely....kids (and myself) are so visually stimulated....and with video games, they are much more adept at pattern recognition.
We give tapes of the last game they played (self evaluation) with a copy of two of our upcoming opponent to our two ILBs and FS....the "other" guys really 1) aren't smart enough 2) don't pick up that much.
This is in addition to two 20 minute film sessions we squeeze in on M & T of the week.
Just make sure you CUT IT UP, so they see what you want them to see...rather than entire game films (IMO)

We give tapes of upcoming opponents to our players. We do not cut it up (no editing equipment/no time to do it manually). We basically offer it to the players- probably 80% of those who play get one when they pick up the scouting report. Like brophy implied... our DBs/LBs probably get the most out of it- but O-Linemen seem to on occasion too.

We give cutups of pass plays to corners; run / pass to fs and lb's. I organize the cutups with our editing system and we have a coach responsible for making each tape. At the end of the week the kids bring back the tape. I'll probably go to DVD this year. We also have the two 20 minute sessions of film during the week plus we have open film room during lunch in which 30-40 players per day will bring their lunch and watch film.

Haven't done the DVD's yet but the videos I can do 2 at a time. I make 8 to 10 tapes in 45 minutes to an hour.

If you get a fast dvd burner, 8 or 12x and the film is only 20 min or so its going to take maybe 5 min a dvd, not much time at all really.

That's one of the main reasons I am probably going to burn DVD's this year. Also, most kids don't have VCR's anymore, or they can watch the DVD's on their X-Box or other video game consoles.

I am building a dvd duplicator. It will have a drive for the source dvd and 9 dvd recorders. Once I have the source dvd the whole process should take 5 minutes to burn 9 dvds. The whole duplicator will cost a little more than 500 dollars. I will let you know how the whole process goes.

We give out to the offensive players the offensive cut up and maybe the opponents stuff for the next week. The defensive players get the defense cut from the previous game and the offense of the next opponent (again, if I get time to cut that up).
They get them on DVD. I have a 9 drive burner that can burn what they need in 5-8 minutes. Used to duplicate VHS on a 16 VCR set up. If anyone wants to use vhs still I have the 16 vcrs, one master vcr, a monitor, a switcher, and an amp to run power to all 16 players for sale!!!! Send me a PM if there is interest. Paydirt, los, and Coachcb have shown interest. Great price for everything.

if you use a program like dsv, all the cut-ups AND written reports can be done in no time at all. they can be burned to dvd, vhs tape or a cd. we go with the cd route as everyone has a computer. the files can be opened on any computer. burn the first cd then place into a multiple cd burner to burn several at a time.
key for me in giving tape during the week as "homework" (we do watch film as a team during the day) is for there to be a test at the end. qb's test includes specific questions about the overall defense and personal as well as something specific or 2 that is within the video

Coaches, I built the DVD duplicator last night. It was very easy. Like putting a puzzle together. The entire system cost 580.00. I tried duplicating a dvd last night, and copied 9 dvd's in about 6 minutes. I will be trying to give my players game films during the upcoming season, I'll keep everyone informed of the ups and downs. I am going to use Pro Scout video again this year, so I have to figure out if I am going to make game cuts, or copy the entire game. Thanks for all of the replys. Good Luck COach G
