I'm watching the Arkansas-Auburn game. Arkansas just ran a play in which one back literally crouched down and hid behind the guard then took a jet-sweep type of handoff and went for a big gain. Just when you though you've seen everything...

Just when you though you've seen everything... It is called the midget. My High School ran it against Coach Malzahn (current hogs o-co) when he was the offensive coordinator at Springdale High School. We stole it from Jeff Holt at Russellville High School, Russellville, Arkansas. Holt stole it from Mike Malham at Cabot High School, Cabot, Arkansas. Mike Malham is one of the winningest coaches in Arkansas history and plays gadgets frequently. Until this year they ran the diamond-t and passed fewer than 2 times a game. The play is very effective, especially if you have a smaller sized running back. |

Watching the college games on Saturday is one of the best ways to pick up new/trick plays or simply a new (better) way of doing something you're already doing. Can't understand why so many high school coaches don't watch the games...

Watching the college games on Saturday is one of the best ways to pick up new/trick plays or simply a new (better) way of doing something you're already doing. Can't understand why so many high school coaches don't watch the games... ill disagree and say watching the games on tv is actually a problem for too many. what college kids can do is sometimes quite different from the avg high school player. just one mans opinion. id say you can learn alot more by watching high school games and the small college game. |

The QB uses his hands as a "stop" for the snap, and the ball falls into hands of the "midget" The first angle gives you the best view of this. The right hand is behind him while he turns because he moves his right hand out of the way during the snap so the ball falls towards the midget. If the ball touches the ground, it really doesn't matter--- as long as the QB doesn't tip off the defense that the midget is there. As always, tell the refs you have this play... they will sometimes blow a whistle during this play, thinking that the "midget" is down and it is a fumbled snap. |

A compact version of the "full house" set up. -------o---o---o---o---o---o---o --------------------o ----------------o-------o --------------------o Looks and is played a lot like the Dead t. The backs are very close and the HB isn't as far back as in the fullhouse. Most of the time it is double tight. |

Ok I think we can top it all with the funniest play I have EVER seen. So we had our first session with all our rookies, who have NEVER played football or even know anything about it.
So we line this guy up at RG, and simply explain, we are going to run right next to you, past your right side. Your job is to push that big guy (the DT!) away from where we are going to run.... he's nodding away, seems simple enough.
Down. Set. Hut.
Ball is snapped, QB takes the handoff and gives to RB who is then met by the RG who on the snap turns 180 degrees and then blocks the RB!
Everyone breaks down in tears of laughter.
Oh what fun we have....
