What role does your state hs fb coaching association play in bringing about changes to improve the game? How strong of a voice does the association have where you are? Do you think being a member is important? Why or why not?
I have only coached in two states, but it sure seems that the coaches association in Colorado had more pull than it does in Kansas. We are very restricted regarding summer contact in Kansas, and in Colorado the association did a great deal to bring about changes that brought the state up-to-date with other states around the country.
Just curious about how things are done around the country.

If your member you get in to ALL highschool games free doesnt matter the sport, whose playing, where, or playoffs. You get in free all the time. Also there is insurance provided through for you as a coach.

our association in Minnesota has an opportunity each year to recommend to the high school league any changes or ideas each year. I would say we are always listened to, but there are no guarentee's if the recommendation will go through.

The North Dakota Coaches Association (covers all sports) has an advisory committee (a separate committee for each sport) that recommends changes to the High School Activities Association. However, the Activities Association never listens to the football advisory committee.
Being a member of the Association gets you a pass that is good for any regular season event sanctioned by the Activities association (Football, Basketball, volleyball etc.) However, come playoffs the pass is no good. For football most games are on Friday so the pass never gets used.
When it comes to postseason awards (Coach of the year) you have to be a Coaches Association Member to be eligible.
On the whole our Coaches Association is one step above useless

In Kansas we can only have 6 fb players workout (fb specific) together at one time during the summer if a coach is present, other than lifting/agilities. We can't coach our own players at 7 on 7 or at team camps. These are the kind of issues I think the coaches association should be working on resolving.
