Hi Guys,
We just finished our season and I'm happy to say we were 8-0. There was one team in the regular season we faced twice that was our biggest challenge and I think there is a good chance we will see them again in the championship. Any advice on facing a team 3 times in one season?
Cheers,
Kevin

yep, Move to another league LOL Crazy having to play same team 3 times in 1 season Crazy, maybe, but can easily happen in house ball. For instance -- www.eteamz.com/bronxwarriorsfootball/teams/ -- notice there are just 4 teams in the Junior division. The divisions are actually age-weight classes, so it's not like you could get interdivision play. They're going to play each other 3 times. For a while it looked like they might have to play 9 a side this year, but they got a lot of late registr'n that allowed decent sized rosters for 4 teams of 11s. Actually I would've preferred 4 teams in the Pee Wee div., because as it is, like last year, we play each other twice and have to have 2 bye weeks. I'd rather play 9 games with no weeks off than 8 games stretched over 10 weeks, even if it meant only 3 opponents. If you're well matched, it could be interesting, and the chance of a talent mismatch would be decreased if we'd've had bigger rosters. We wound up with 90 registering in the Pee Wees, 5 teams of 18 (although with no-shows it's a little less), and one of them is a doormat who might've gotten some size & speed if we'd formed teams of 22-23. Playing time per player would've been slightly less, however, and apparently game length is non-negotiable with our officials, who seem to insist on the amount of slack time we have between games & halves.

Get better at what you do, polish your counters off your bread and butter plays. don't put in a bunch new plays and take practice time away from your core. !!!! Work on ball security !!!! don't turn the ball over against a team you have beaten twice. No penalties, no turnovers, smart play calling don't put yourself in 3rd and long. If you punt work on your punt game. Nothing earth shattering from me of course just common sense things that help win any football game. good luck coach

We are playing in our leagues championship this Sat. We play a 7-1 team that we beat back in week 2, 36-0. They have improved tremendously. Really going to be a tough game. I have had all sorts of stuff pop into my pea brain, lets do this, and adjust that... I think we will do what we do. Period. Thanks brek msl

This is basically the same issue as play calling, but on a larger scale. People ask what plays to run in a game, the answer is the plays that have already been successful. So the way you play another game against a team you've played before is the way you played when you were successful before.

Always a tough one, because you don't know how they are going to adjust, while you pretty much have all the incentive to keep doing what you're doing since it worked. So it's easier for them to get ready for you than you them.
I'd just look hard at those two games to figure out whether you had something consistently work well, and then spend some time preparing your counters to those plays in case they load up to stop them. Don't put anything new in, but maybe work harder on those couple of plays you have that are in, but you rarely use. You might be forced to go a bit deeper into your playbook, so be ready for that.
Don't spend time focusing on their schemes, those could change. Focus on their players, and who you have to keep track of to beat them.
And be prepared to continue to do what works if they don't adjust. You won, so you did something right. Keep doing that until they stop it.
