Coaches,
I've been on here for 3 years now and as a lot of young and/or European coahes, I've learn soooo much about football and coaching thanks to this board.
Here’s my top ten:
1. Players don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.
2. Don’t take it too seriously. It’s not about you and never will be.
3. Football is not important for everyone as it is for you
4. It’s not the X’s and O’s, it’s Jimmies and Joes
5. Keep up with technology
6. You watch what you coached
7. Keep it simple
8. Less is more
9. Always be a student of the game
10. Play defense, not defenses

How could you miss: There is no universal terminology in footballActually, that's my 11th. Coach, we'd simply get into our Flamethrower formation and run Bazooka against that defense. Any idiot who runs the Flip Offense should know that.

How could you miss: There is no universal terminology in footballWhile it is true in absolute terms, it is not true in practical terms. 99% of know what a 3 tech is, what a shallow route route is, and what a down block is. Yes I know there are many counter examples. A 7 tech could mean a 9 for some and a 6i for others. China could mean smash or maybe not, and rocket could be an outside toss with fast deep motion, or just the motion, or possibly a tunnel screen. But most coaches, not all, recognize the differences between what is almost "universal" language and what is system or team lingo.

We have a new coach on staff with experience (10+ years). I spent a lot of time at the first of the season explaining to him the difference in Boot and Sprint Out. I thought those were pretty universal...but I guess not.

From Outlaw... "The under is the best defense against [insert offense] because it puts people in all the gaps they want to run into" Let's just say the under is the best defense\ because it stops every offense haha j/k, I've owe him a lot from all the tid bits I stole from him!

"What does Oregon run on offense?" "What does TCU run on defense?" I was looking up bubble with zone read videos...and guess who came up...Quack, Quack. I had to fight through the shame that this board has created in me for doing something that Oregon does, lol. I finally decided that it was okay since I wasn't actually looking for Oregon's stuff.
