This is insane. I am sure we will all be required to get one down the road at some point. Despite the cost. Very good idea, but knowing our world, this will probably lead to more restrictions all the way around. I am interested in seeing the data and can't immediately bash the product. Something tells me that this will just be another way to sue people. Just a guess. Here's the link crap...the link doesn't work. Try this- www.time.com/time/businessGo to the link and then you will find the story in the Most Popular section

With all the problems I had with concussions, I'm all for something that'll help increase awareness. I've got the same concerns as you guys about this, though. It it's used by all the right way, it could be a wonderful tool. However, I'm sure someone is going to spoil it.

How about designing a helmet that prevents concussions instead of one that lets me know when I *might* have one.
I'd pay $1000 for a helmet that guaranteed no concussions. I'd pay that in a heartbeat. But I don't see what's so special about this one. Other than a hit-meter where we can measure how hard someone got hit so they can be the victim on "JACKED UP" on Monday night.

In theory, perhaps a sound idea. In practicality, looks like we might be opening ourselves up for a great deal of litigation. Who will monitor? Who will make the final decision? Are we qualified to interpret the data? Don't think I want the responsibility of making that call. If you don't have them, you're negligent. If you do have them, who makes the call?

Concerns - Can the opposing team monitor the data stream and tell the ref's that Johnny needs to be taken out because of a big hit? Would there be an "impartial 3rd party" medical staff that would monitor the hits and check guys in and out? Kind of extreme and doubt it would happen. But something similar happened in a youth game I coached where one of my players was slow getting up, the opposing coaches started screaming that he was hurt, and he had to come out to be checked by the EMT.
