Ive been sitting here waiting the last 3 days for a film from last friday night from a team who is 3.5 hours away...
When I contacted him I asked if they used HUDL... tried to get him to sign up for the free trial and try it out... nope... he wanted to mail the last two early and mail the upcoming one on what I thought was Sat...
Well I contacted him yesterday and he said as far as he knew it was mailed out tuesday...
Well here it is thursday and no mail...
I may get in trouble... I may get a fine from our association... but next year its HUDL or nothing....

Thats crazy but not surprised with some of the programs around here. Let me know in advance next year, I'll get it for you. We played Bastrop in 2008 - Josh Downs and crew and I drove to Jackson, MS at 4am to swap film. It would be nice if the LHSAA had the funding to mandate internet film (hudl) swap similar to that in college and the pros. Its funny to hear horror stories of guys who were GA's waiting for the FedEx airplane to arrive first thing Sunday morning. Times have changed, I hope you drop 50 on them

But I have honestly watched more film this year than I have in the prior 10 years... NO doubt about it..

We have started using HUDL this year, and I'm sold that it is the future, but in some of these rural, broke areas, we still get VHS tapes from some people. I think it will be a while before anybody is able to mandate it.

Agreed. I thought driving and meeting the coach halfway was "conventional"!

Got me thinking of the oddest places you met another coach to make an exchange? Couple years ago I met one at a Zoo (midway point) to exchange films.

We only trade in the playoffs and only because it is a requirement and you don't know who you're going to play until the season is over. Other than that we just scout and film games ourselves. Parents are helpful! =)

since the previous coach signed up for the 30 day free trial and I have no clue what the password and all that is to log in...and since we were DSV...this year I've been kind of stuck trying to find an alternative. So we have been using dropbox. It's a website, I upload the video, email them a link and they can download it and vice-versa. It's worked well. I am not driving 2 hours to exchange film. Drop box is a great alternative if you don't have hudl. It's fairly cheap, easy, and worthwhile. Our whole staff uses it this year ( I've heard rumors about hudl for next year, but right now it's just drop box) and it's been great for us.

you mean you guys do not have a direct handoff? we always get film from the team in person. Well that is the norm I guess.. I should have specified conventional in terms of long distance games... We are 3.5 hours away from these guys and although I would have met him half way, he didnt seem to want to work it that way. SO then I text him to let him know that the video still has not arrived on thursday and he offers to meet me halfway that evening...

Have your district coaches get together and set a standard of exchange that everyone must follow. Then follow it.

The thing about a guy like that is if he's a jerk to you he's probably a jerk to others. That means that if you check around you can probaby find people who will be happy to send you film.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Another option for non-Hudl teams may be to purchase one of our Exchange Only packages (www.hudl.com/signup)

Well I came in yesterday and there was the package... It was sent out at 11:30 am on Weds with 2 day air.. so it arrived on Friday... Seriously?? Why even send it at that point? And they payed $19 to send it...
In the end I guess it didnt matter.. they beat our brains in 46-0... but still.

So far this season, haven't had to do a DVD trade at all, been all done through Hudl. It's been the best thing we've had, getting film a few hours after games have ended and have them ready to break down after film session. Been the best.

Hudl the only way. If a team sends DVD by mail He doesn’t get mine until I get his. I receive his I then use Hudl and email him his. That easy.

im about to drive 100 miles sat. morning for film exchange, they have hudl, we dont, we have apex, but hudle wouldn;t work for us anyway, our internet has crashed 8 times this year, and signal around here is awful (very rural), maybe in the next 5 years it will get better and we can

Dropbox... It is free and you can download the video directly to your CPU. Then burn as many discs as you want.

Just create a dropbox account so you can send your film to them. They can add you as a "recruiter" and send you the film through Hudl. Once you get the film through Hudl, you can download it to your CPU and not have to worry about the internet issues. Easy

Getting film around here is a serious PITA.
So, I just take all of our stuff, burn 7 copies of it each week and drop it in the mail on Monday. The guys in our league are upstanding so they all reciprocate.
But, we're talking about using HUDL because it's getting really old at this point. I received several films this year that didn't allow me to fast forward or rewind, at all. They just kept running.

Coaches around here do the same thing. They're stuck back in 2005. They say they don't want to spend the money on Hudl.
I would like to see a cost analysis run for what people spend during the season on DVD's, DVD cases, gas, time driving, etc. I guarantee you it makes the $800-$1200 Hudl subscriptions look pretty damn affordable.

haven't read all the replys but huddle is just more than film trade, thats for sure. Film break down (ODK), all kinds of analysis and analitical stuff. We use it and stopped using independent software ( like Bliss scout )..to break down film
best thing out there and know waiting for film trade..

So, it's better than Coach Comm?

So, it's better than Coach Comm? Hudl? I didn't realize Coach Comm provided video services, I thought it was just headsets, etc. Never used Coach Comm, but I can't foresee it being better than Hudl. Hudl is affordable, easy to use, and has pretty much all the bells and whistles of video editing systems that cost 3 times as much.
