Wow, double wrong here maybe... The kid never should have swung in the first place...
But it cant be good for the career of that coach to make such a grave threat... pun intended.

guess the coach shouldn't let his mouth write a check his butt can't cash. how does that even come up anyway? How exactly is that trying to calm a kid down? Obviously the kid already swung on one coach...he had made his decision... I took it as he swung at the coach that he ultimately hit? I mean, most of us probably would respond a little wild if a kid swung at us... probably wouldnt end well for us either... But I would rather find another job than let a kid take a second swing.

I took it as he put his arm around him to calm him down. Kid threw a punch. Coach warned him to never do it again. He gets punched in the face.

You watch they'll be those who will blame the coach- getting attacked these days often is twisted into to being the victims fault.

The story didnt make much sense in terms of the police thinking a player had run into the bench... thus they thought the game was still going on... but it happened after the game while walking off the field?

No it happened at the beginning of the second quarter. Kid was cuffed at the concession stand.

Gotch ya, you're right airraider - I teech maff, I don't reed good. but then the story doesn't make sense. "Cutter told police that he approached Simpson, who appeared upset about the game, as Simpson walked off the field. As Simpson walked away from Cutter as Cutter tried to coach him, Cutter said he put his hand on Simpson's shoulder pads to calm him down and talk to him. Simpson then turned around to Cutter and swung at him, but missed, Lenox wrote in the affidavit. Cutter told police that he told Simpson that he would "put you in the dirt if you ever swing at me." Simpson then turned around and punched Cutter in the face, according to the affidavit. So the kid swings, misses...then the coach says "if you ever take a swing at me..." and then the kid punches him in the face? oh well...whatever, I've got my own problems. Physical violence is the least of my worries, at least so far as I've witnessed through our first 6 games. sounds like you have a lou holtz type problem. when he was the head coach at William and Mary He said " we have way to many mary's and not enough williams"

I suggest both player and coach are made to do to Dr Miller's workshop called EMOTIONAL CONTROL AND SELF DISCIPLINE

Knowing the East High Program, this is not their first embarrassing on field incident. I think it was 3 years ago when they got into a brawl with Warren High School on the field. Aside from football they have had quite a few police interventions at basketball games as well.
This is more than a coach/player issue. It is a district problem.

It was Oil City they had a brawl with. Also had a shooting in their gym a few years ago. It is a school with lots of problems. Not a district problem but for sure a school wide problem. Also it was the players first week on the team. He just go out of lockup.

Gotta side with the coach here. A kid takes a swing at the coach, the coach restrains himself from physically going after the kid. It's alright to let the kid know he's messing with the bull and is "about to get the horns" if he keeps this abuse up.
Just because I'm a coach doesn't mean I need to take that kind of verbal/physical abuse. I think it's ok to let a kid know he's out of line and you're still the "Alpha Male" in this relationship.
That's the only way to earn the respect of some kids. A very few, but still; some depending on their background/upbringing.

I was the night supervisor of a lock-down wing at a youth/teen treatment center for awhile. I can tell you something; I didn't have much control over my mouth the first time a kid threw a punch at me. It's hard enough to control yourself physically, much less verbally in these situations.
