LOL I think the thing with the energy drink is all of the other stuff besides caffeine that is in those things. At least when I drink my black coffee I know that's all there is in my cup. Coffee. Not enough sugar to kill a horse and the extract of some root I have never heard of! LOL Some of you guys do amaze me with the fact you can actually hold food down before a game LOL

Our coaches eat the same thing the players do...
Ham sandwich. Lays. Water.

I like a good oatmeal before games, but I need this really early on the day. 3 to 4 hours before the game I can't eat anything, I couldn't hold it down. And the regular pre game cigarette somewhere where my players can't see me. I would explode without having a cigarette before the game. Actually I buy a pack before every game, have one or two before and after the game and throw away the rest cause I don't smoke at all. And a lot of chewing gum before and at the game. Not very healthy, but it helps me stay focused thorugh out the game.

will eat whatever the team meal is that day. usually macaroni, salad, water. then about half hour before kickoff myself and two other coaches meet in the locker room and down a "Rockstar Zero". Sugar free, same caffeine as 3 cups of coffee. I was diagnosed as having ADD as a kid, and the medication for someone with this affliction is Ritalin... which is a stimulant. The stimulant has an OPPOSITE effect on someone with ADD as it would with everyone else. It actually helps to relax them and helps focus. I hated taking the meds and fought my mother tooth and nail when i was a kid. Now i welcome the stimulant effect as it helps me focus and stay engaged with the game.

Fatz sponsors our pregame meal. Grilled chicken strips, mashed potatos, green beans. Then for dessert a big ole dip of grizzly.

On Fridays I eat whatever the team eats in pregame. For sat games I stop off at the little deli near my house to get a couple egg sandwiches, homefries, and the largest coffee I can get. Always buy a pack of bubblelicious and two rain-berry Gatorades for during the game.

since my playing days my big good luck thing is a breakfast burrito friday morning. Go to a local place for the 3$ breakfast burrito and sit outside and enjoy it. love it.
eat a salad around noon. laugh all you want. gotta get my greens. ties me over til the meal
team dinner is round 4ish. I tend to get a big ol soda for it. The dinner is usually fried chicken and rolls or potato wedges from a local place. that fried chicken is outstanding. Even after the game.

Yeah I'm 98% vegan...don't really fit in with the coaching diet culture so what is the 2% of your diet that is not vegan? I weigh 170 lbs and used to weight 265. in losing the weight i moved over to a high protein/lower carbs diet. my carbs are complex carbs. Free range eggs now and then.

Okokokokokok, what the heck is: amped rockstar wawa spark sour patch kids ?? Are those things anything close to a Moon Pie and an RC? WaWa is a truck stop that makes the best {censored} coffee in the Northeast...and has hella-good hoagies. And yes they sell RC and Moon Pies... Glad another Delaware Guy on here to appreciate WaWa.... I go with a 24 oz wawa coffee at about 330ish..then I slam a Kona Monster just before the game and another at half time... I usually go through 2 bags of david sunflower seeds each game....

I'm amazed at the # of pukers as well... Not just pukers but the number of guys who think they need a jolt of caffeine before a game. We've had a few on our staff. The funny thing is they were guys who were wound up naturally. The last things these guys needed was a Red Bull or a Coke Extra. That's why I was wondering if this wasn't an extension of their playing days when they needed to be amped for a game.

I am surprised how many people drink energy drinks as well. I also have ADD and use to drink energy drinks in college to help me focus on test because I will never take any medication for it. Then I realized how bad they are for you. If we expect our players to not drink these then why would we? I believe in Coach Wooden's philosophy when it comes to getting pumped up before games. Control your emotions and do not get too up or down. I would think this would really apply to coaches who have to stay collected an entire game to make the right calls. I guess some may think they need the energy but I feel if you need extra energy to get you through Friday night then something is wrong. Even if you need energy, there are much healthier ways.

I know it is not the healthiest thing on earth, but I rather enjoy the taste of the drink I choose. What works for me may not work for you, just saying.
On a side note, as I am standing in the cold @$$ rain on friday our DC tells me to look up at him in the booth and he taunts me with a steaming hot cup of coffee..what a richard

I like a nice low-carb wrap, cause I know if we lose I am go to have a high carb influx after the game.

we go to applebees after every game... just because it stays open really late... i freakin hate applebees, the food and appetizers suck!!!
I am a huge fan of Chilis but they close earlier so it isnt an option, I need to find a new place to go to after games by next year because I cant handle another year of crappy applebees food next season!

I never eat before the games anymore. I usually have a deli sandwich two-three hours before hand. I got tired of throwing it up. I used to drink a 5-Hour Energy before each game but it started to give me PMS by half-time.

It helps me stay up later to do film upload/laundry at the school until 11:30/midnight.

similar to motiv, the caffeine helps ease me. I got adhd. it acts as a hell of a stimulant and really calms me down more than anything. As long as its diet and doesnt have the sugar it helps keep me awake, alert, and thinking well.
if i dont get caffeine im an irritable wreck tho. pissed off at the world and all kinds of riled up haha

Our parents cook before every home game. Steak, spaghetti, lasagna, you name it. Away games it's chik-fil-a, arby's or a sub.
After the road games we always have subs for the trip back.
The boys get fed!
