Hey Coaches,
I am looking for coaches that have starting a program from ground up. A team full of guys with 0 to no football experience but have played other sports. My age group is anywhere from 17 to adult men. I would love for coaches to share there experiences if they have any.
Thanks
Coach Z

Yes. Was part of a staff that started a DIII team that transitioned to IAA. Loads of fun.
Also started a MS program from scratch.

My dad started a program from scratch at a small rural school in Ohio. Huntington Local's football field is named Earl Knight Field in his honor. He passed away almost a year ago but was always proud of that accomplishment.

Started a six-man program last year with 12 kids that had never played a down of football before in their lives. The goal is to transition to full FHSAA 11-man status by start of the 2013 season (probably one year of 8 because we still have no "big" guys.)

Check this book out. Alan Trimble HC, Jenks Trojans, is a very successful coach and the book is very well written. There is plenty that you can take from this book and transfer over to the European shedule.

Coach,
We started our U19 program here in northern europe in 2006 and in 2007 we started our adult program.
First year with U19 did not go very well, we had like 35 kids and 2 had played football before. Year after that we finished 3rd in our country and in 2008 we won the national championship.
As for our adult team, 2007 and 2008 we finished 3rd in Division 2, 2009 we won D2 championship and moved up to Division 1 where we have finished both years with championship.
PM me if you like.

Started the program I now coach in the early '90s, locked horns with a negative school board in a rural area. Beg, borrowed, and purchased used gear from all over the northeast. Signed kids up and equipped them with no schedule, teams not allowed to play non-sanctioned programs. Finally convince the school board here to accept us in '94 as 8-man team, we paid for EVERYTHING thru fundraising, no school money involved. We won the 8-man state championship the first year out. Until about 4 years ago we used an old trailer as a locker room
We are now a school funded 11-man program and our union towns are into it! We try to WIN THE DAY every day!

I was lucky enough to start a High school program from scratch 5 years ago here in Maryland. It has been a great but challenging experience. We have gone from 2-8 our first year of Varsity to 9-1 this past year. But the best part has been seeing the kids buy into building a program.
