Ok...I have a guy that plays QB...he is good in practice and meetings but when he gets to the game it is like he has a block or something. I think it is nerves and low self-esteem. What if anything would you do in this type of situation? I am still pretty new to the coaching game and wanted some advice.

We have a kid like that. We moved him to linebacker and he had 125 tackles. Some kids are just not cut from the QB cloth. Not saying that's your situation, but a position change may ultimately be something to consider for the good of both the athlete and the team.

There is nothing like the Friday night lights but put him as close to a game like situation as possible.

Honestly, this guy does not have the build or mentality to play defense and I don't see him playing anything else on offense. Practices before the season were much closer to game situations but now are mostly walk throughs and gameplan installation. We only practice 1 day a week so that makes it hard to go live and get the other stuff done.

1 day a week? Are your opponents restricted to practicing 1 day a week as well? I've never heard of that.

This is for a semi-pro team so we are not able to practice but one to two days a week. That is pretty standard for teams at this level due to other commitments.

Where's the block? Throwing from the pocket well? Throwing under pressure? Checking at the line? Remembering the plays? Bad decisions?
I know you could probably say all of it, but which one is the worst? It will say something about what you need to dial-in...you have to identify the sticking point, and if he has any talent or toughness you can move the chains with him...

The thing is that he seems to get nervous and make mistakes such as bad throws under pressure as well as mistakes in ball handling. We work on these things and he does very well in practice situations it just seems when the game starts he losses all his confidence.
