Guys we play this Saturday so we will have an extra day to practice. What suggestions would you have for utilizing this extra day. We have never had a scheduled game on a Saturday as a staff so we aren't sure where we want to go with this.
Thanks

Friday = Specialties, Pre-game Routine, Launch Special Teams (vs. air) - done. An hour at most.
Show opponents' film or short position-unit meetings perhaps.

I would consider just giving the guys a day off on Monday.

Normally, for a Friday game our Monday routine is weights, film, then go outside to go over the scouting report and install the game plan, then light conditioning. For a Saturday game we'll split that up. We'll lift and watch film on Monday. On Tuesday we'll go over the game plan, with an emphasis on game plan, and condition.

We usually have at least one Saturday game. On Monday we have an abbreviated practice. About an hour and fifteen. We go through Indo, tackling circuit, specialty check and a quick defensive align and assign period.

to the OP... do you usually practice on Saturdays?
I have never been a part of a program that did NOT come in on Saturdays, so generally Monday and Tuesday were heavy work days for us. Wednesday was a polish day with emphasis on Team Periods and reduced Indy periods. Thursday was the pregame script and Friday was game day.
For you coaches who don't treat Monday as a "regular" practice day (Contact, Indy, skells, 1v1 team etc) do you guys not come in on Saturdays?

I can't think of any in this part of Virginia that don't. When I was in HS in Pennsylvania we didn't come in either. All we did was come in on Sunday evening to watch film.

Nobody I know of comes in Sundays down here in South La. I think most friday night games follow the same practice format..Monday Tuesday heavy contact/work days..Wednesday lighter contact, mostly team scripts, thurs pregame, friday game, saturday film/lift/run/injury assessment.

We do optional film on Saturdays because this was my first year at the school and my first time at an inner-city school so I didn't want to completely create a culture shock and try to allow myself to see if we could have productive Saturday mornings. Next year I think we will come in and do film, light lift and conditioning.
I think it would be very nice to be able to go Monday/Tuesday full practice, Wednesday more team emphasis, and Thursday script.
Interesting ideas!

Monday=Monday Tuesday=Tuesday Wednesday=Wednesday Thursday=Wednesday Friday=Thursday Saturday=Friday
Tuesday might have a little something special in terms of what we need to improve upon IE a certain special team, technique, scheme, etc.... It will be a 'focus on us day'
Thursday might be a bit shorter depending on the JV game situation.

We play most of our games on Saturdays. We have to take Sundays off; state rules. We watch film of the next week's opponent on Monday and go through a light practice. We go full boreTuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and then run another light one on Friday with film and special teams.
