Does anyone go through a game-like situation practice? We did one a few years ago at a different school and I would like to get some ideas on putting one together. This would be the practice before gameday.

Kickoff--2 times with one's, once with their backups in. Defense comes out for three plays. Punt Block/Return Team--block 2, return one. Offense come out and runs three plays. Punt Team--2 punts with one's, one with backups in. Defense comes out for seven plays. PAT/FG Block Team--3 plays. Kickoff Return Team--2 times with one's, once with backups. Offense comes out for three plays. PAT/FG Team--3 attampts from various spots on field. Kickoff Team--2 deep, one onside. Offense--3 plays. Punt Team--punting out of your end zone--2 punts. Defense--3 plays. etc.
We continue going through every scenerio imaginable. We are attempting to "play the game" on Thursday so there is nothing unexpected on Friday night.

We will try to do game like situation vs our scout team. The varsity offense has 3 downs for 12 yards against the scout team defense and the the scout team offense has 5 downs for 10 yards vs the varsity defense. This puts our players in a challenging atmosphere every day and we have seen big improvements in how much effort and intensity that we get out of practice. We will sometimes put a decal sticker on the line for which ever team get the first downs or stops them.

We do that. We do an entire game script during our walk through practice on Thursday. The offense has drives (scripted plays and results), the defense faces a scout team with the other teams plays. First and second half, all special teams, and all sorts of field positions and game situations built in (turnovers, 2 point conversions, other team runs swinging gate, etc, etc). It's all shorts and helmets, so it's all just jog through, but it prepares them for game situations and keeps them focused. We even simulate lining up for the post game handshake. I think it's extremely productive.

I feel that the more situations that you can put the kids into the better. Because when they are exposed to a situation where they have their back against the wall they will have already thought about what they have to do to be successful.

We add in take a safety, kick after a safety, and victory kneel. One more thing we do is let the kids know what we want to do in overtime.(Play defense first and then win with a trick play) Kids eat this up. To be good at the trick stuff you gotta script it and do it daily.

We use a mock game script also. I have copies of it, but not on my computer. I'll try to get it on there.
