Coaches,
Working on staff expections and job descriptions for each level in our program. I have 9-12 completed, but was wondering if anyone had staff expectations and job description for their junior high staffs.
Thanks!!

This is really important. IN my experience, most coaches do not have any expectations in writing for their jr high guys. Its leaves too much to be assumed....some ideas
1- filming, scouting, helping out on friday nights as needed 2- attend and participate in varsity summer camp 3- assist at frosh practices until your own season begins 4- attend at least one varsity coaches meeting in the off season 5- run the basic varsity terms, off. defense and structure practices around fundamentals and fun. 6- equipment care, budget, inventory, collection, distribution etc. 7- distribute playbooks, parent letters, practice schedules etc. 8- actively promote the program, recruit, attend at least one youth league game and display interest in those kids. 9- fund raisers as need for the ms program 10- actively provide academic and discipline assistance to the teachers/faculty/admin of the ms
just some ideas...

Very nice Coach Calande, I've had the same experience too many varsity HCs leave too much grey area for their middle school/junior coaches then have the audacity to get mad at those coaches when they wing stuff because they didnt get an answer!

knight,
that is why I'm in the process of putting all of this together. I don't want any grey area areas. We need improve on the varsity end with communications to our JH coaches and also provide more support for what they need to accomplish the goals we want accomplished down at the JH.

What were some of your expectations for your varsity coaches? I have been gathering information on what other programs and coaches expect from the staff?

I hand out a staff manual to our coaches every season. We have our middle school coaches at our staff meeting as well - we spell everything out to the letter. Job description, duties, scout assignments, philosophies, etc. I coached many years at the jr. high/sub-varsity levels and understand miscommunication. However, you'd be surprised that some coaches do not read the manual --- obviously, they did not last long.
Here is our table of contents of our staff manual: TABLE OF CONTENTS PROGRAM Mission Statement/Objectives Lincoln Football Foundations Program Overview COACHES Coaching Philosophy Coaching Principles Chain of Command Coaching Techniques Coaches Responsibilities Coaches Expectations Coaches Guidelines Policies PLAYERS Player Expectations Player Development Player Recruitment TEAMS Offense, Defense, Special Teams Philosophy Teaching Fundamentals for the Wing-T Offense The Lincoln 4-4 Defense STRENGTH / CONDITIONING Strength Training Overview Conditioning Program Overview EMERGENCIES 911 Emergency Action Plan Routine Emergencies ASSIGNMENTS / SCOUTING Coaching Assignments & Responsibilities Varsity Game Organization Outline Scouting Assignments/Responsibilities Scouting Guidelines OUTLINE / MISCELLANEOUS Total Program Outline Miscellaneous Items

Coach Calande, thanks for the list you posted!! Id also suggest you add "attend one off season coaching clinic with the varsity staff" or something along those lines.

TCM57: Saw one of your earlier posts on player manuals. We are in the process of creating a player manual and are looking for some examples. Is it possible to get a copy of yours? Please PM me if possible.
