Hang onto the Football! Navy had the win and let it get away. Still a good showing against the big boys.

But, just to start a ruckus, there are 3 things that can happen with the option, and 2 of them are bad. Navy found that out. But really, I have got to give props to Navy. They did more with less talent than anybody in college football. And really, I love the option, and those guys could run that play 50 times and only mess up the pitch one. But that one cost them.

Hated to see Navy lose. Nothing against BC though. It was a great story that a guy who never played football kicked the GW FG.

I think their nerves got them to a little today. If you look at the game again it seems as though the pitches weren't executed to perfection all day. This was a bad day for their execution of the option to not be perfect. But overall they played a good game and showed that they definitely can compete. Any signs of Paul Johnson leaving or has all those rumors gone away?

Rumors not gone, but he may be hard pressed to get Bama. New rumor out of Atlanta is Mora Jr. to Bama but I doubt it.

I think the fact that Navy was playing some kids that started the season as backups at QB and FB hurt a littl bit. Also was it just me or was there just a general lack of mesh on the dive phase. I did'nt see ANY mesh really unless they gave to the fullback otherwise it was just a quick not very convincing belly fake. I think that hurt them in slowing down linebackers who were able to get outside and help on the pitch alot quicker than they normally would have.

Agreed. It looked like the second team guys, fb and qb, just didn't execute very well on the mesh. BC's db's were screaming downhill running alley on option support. Navy was hurting themselves formation-wise because the #2 wr was covered-up and not an eligible receiver much of the time. Why would the fs honor anything except screaming to option support?

I noticed that too. It seemed like the safeties were just killing the option in the backfield because Navy was playing a lot of over stuff. The announcers mentioned that the coach had the offense "in his head" - he did not carry a play sheet. It seemed to me that they couldn't do anything to counter the pressure the defense was putting on them. I know that their coach is doing a great job given the circumstances, but how can a team compete at that level with so little flexibility in the offense? I was sad to see them lose the game because it seemed like their guys were really playing hard and really wanted to win and one mistake really cost them the game.

yep, I too noticed the over stuff. When they went balanced they seemed to be able to move the ball a little better. I did like some of the complementary stuff they did though. QB counter off the rocket sweep and also the double wing looking counter off the rocket sweep.

They ran the ball well, but their 2 TD passes could have gone either way - guys made ESPN catches!
My big gripe is WHY PITCH when the game is on the line? Keep, hand it off, Quick Kick. I know its easy to second guess from the cheap seats but c'mon... in that situation I'm telling my QB to keep the ball!

Your right. Right before the play, we said,"Whatever you do, don't pitch the football." Oh well what does a dumb H.S. o-coordinater know compared to big timers.
