The hours of scouting , discipline, film breakdown etc may be syonymous to coaching but it has been my experience, like any other job, some put more effort into it than others, its human nature. Quite often just like in anything else in life, with the greatest effort comes the greatest reward. You might be shocked at the level of commitment between staffs in the same Public School District, huge disparity I found in level of effort. The best were thinking football year round even if they had other coaching duties. As in any other task in life, some do it better or more efficiently than others, found it interesting the different ways some broke down film etc.and broke down practices. Combine those that were very good at it with the very high level of effort and we saw a very successful program over time. They were always recruiting, always doing reasearch/ getting better at coaching, in the weight room, summer conditioning, and even making themselves into better leaders through study and mentoring etc The best ones I studied were open minded and felt very confident they could make winners out of any group they got.

Seems like we're all in agreement ... get players out, get the best players you can. teach/train/coach them the best you can. get them to execute within a sound system. get them the skills to be able to make plays consistently. put your best players (those you've trained well) in positions to make plays. lol mine is a nicer pic huey, it moves

Thanks guys.......I think it is essential, I'll never beg a kid to play though.......on a small team, one player can make life a lot easier for everyone else.
Especially when the O-line coaches go looking at the TE's for converts! lol (not really funny)

I mean, one spot needs to be filled, and the whole thing is messed up.
we needed a tackle, so we moved our starting TE there. We needed a TE now, so we moved our biggest WR there. Now we need another WR, so we play a kid whose not ready.
One freaking OT and we are a lot better last season.
