for those who don't have time to watch game film with your team how much do you expect for your players to watch on there own? or do you get them to watch any film on there own? we use a website to trade film with other teams so every player has there own account.

We use hudl and it sure makes it easy for them to get the video. They seem to watch a good bit now that it is on their computers.

Why don't you have time to watch film together as a team? Why not just allocate time?

We are new to Hudl and love it so far. Do most of you who have it no longer have video sessions with the players, or do you spend time as a group AND send it to their separate accounts with comments?

Our school's technology director blocked hudl after the first month of school last year because it was becoming "too much of a drain on the network" because players were using it in the computer labs.

We watch film Monday through Wednesday. We watch film offensively one day and defensively two of the days with special teams thrown in there on one of the defensive days. This gives the JV team some undivided time on one side of the ball or the other. Is this what you guys are doing, or is there something better we should look into?

I think you have to allocate practice time to watch video. We have cut 5-10 minutes off of practice to watch video everyday. One little trick that has helped us is a daily "top ten." After going through the practice film, we'll find 10 clips that either need fixing or show great effort/execution. We also make sure at least one clip shows a player that isn't going hard. Accountability because you never know when the camera is watching. We are on Hudl too, and most kids don't know how to watch video on their own. They watch it like they watch SportsCenter. They are looking for big plays or admiring the way they look when they run. It takes a little training to show them HOW to watch film.

What I am looking forward to doing in the season with Hudl (and have already done with 7 on 7) is making notations on personal accounts of players. An example: Directly overhead of a receiver I was able to write,"You are not taking him deep enough before making your cut." Then I drew a line to where he should have made his cut. If this was a video session with the entire team, I'd have to show this play many times to get in comments to several individuals.

We watch about 15 minutes as an entire team on Monday before practice. On Tues. and Wed. the defense watches film together after practice while the O-line watches in another area. Sometimes on Thurs. we watch film as we eat pizza(entire team) after practice. Kids are allowed to come to coaches' office an watch film during the day.

We do most of our film work during the player's lunch hour Monday thru Thursday. We feel this is fair since we don't do any film on Saturdays like many teams in our area do. This year we have Hudl for the first time so we'll see if that changes things.

I think that if you've got coaches there during the school day, lunch is a perfect time for film. They're quiet because they're eating and you don't have to sacrifice practice time.

HUDL is on the money. you're one of the few DSV guys I have heard say that... Have been saying this since we switched 3 years ago. For most, the unknown keeps us doing what we've always done. Took a chance trying an unknown (hudl) in 2008 while leaving my comfort zone (dsv). Have been pleased more than words can express.

We do most of our film work during the player's lunch hour Monday thru Thursday. We feel this is fair since we don't do any film on Saturdays like many teams in our area do. This is exactly what we do. Although I give the kids 20 minutes in the cafeteria to eat lunch with friends, do homework, etc. I have them the last 27 min. Friday they have the whole lunch to themselves. We watch as a team on Mondays after practice. We are on Hudl and I post a print out on Mondays of how much time each kid watched the week before on their own. We ask them to watch an additional 20 min on their own a day. Kids do a good job of policing themselves after they see the printout. And ditto on the Saturday thing!
