Sounds like Illinois high school teams won't be able to do any full-contact work against other teams this summer. Sounds like all we are going to be able to do is 7-on-7.
Probably is going to put a big dent in the summer camp industry!

Don't feel bad. We, in Ohio, have never been able to have any full-contact work until scrimmages in August. 7-on-7 is the only thing allowed during the summer versus other teams. And even then, it counts towards one of the 7 days we are allowed to work on football. Not a huge fan of the 7-on-7's but it does have some benefits

so will you be able to do full contact vs your own teams? like wisconsin, it is strictly full contact your players vs your players.

That is my understanding...we still get our 25 contact days during the summer and we can hold full-contact practices. We just can't take the kids to a "team" camp (which many D-III schools host) where the kids use helmets and shoulder pads and scrimmage against other teams.

Is this legit? I checked ihsa.org and didn't see anything about it. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense because basketball teams are allowed to go all over the state and scrimmage teams. If this is true then it is time to raise some heck at the Illinois Clinic. I think the IHSA football director is speaking at it. Should be a lot of angry people regarding this... I wonder if he will smooth it over by telling us the schools can buy us rings now.

coachf, I have heard this several times from some pretty connected people(SHG). I think this is going through. I don't know the logic of it, but it is legit.

Fantastic. I like it when people change things, just to change things.

It's a done deal...Gannaway will admit that he screwed up...not much to say way a man says he's at fault...remember when Dave Gannaway stood up and stated .." as long as you don't scrimmage 11 on 11 it's legal...11 on 10 is fine."...don't know if he was overruled or a miscommunication at the ihsa office..anyway will probably be rewritten and hopefully with dave gannaway's help...definately (in my opinion) will not include any kind of summer scrimmage with scoring...may include inside run, etc with another team , but no scoring...also might not allow full pads, but shells only...Gannaway is speaking at the Bryon clinic, ...I won't be there, but should give an indication of what's up....also, Gannaway will speak to the ihfbca officers at the pre clinic meeting on Feb 13th... what I know

You should all impeach the guy like Clinton got impeached. This is worse then sleeping with Monica Lewinsky who isn't even god looking.

actually the by-laws are not changeing, it's just the interpretation of the by-laws has changed, why? who knows. gannaway is sceduled to speak at the spring IHSFCA clinic and from what i heard they are going to put him on right before the featured speaker. but as of right now we only get 7 on 7 with no pads vs. other schools. if this is the case we all need to ban together and get the by-laws changed, we should be able to do as the basketballers do. if they leave it this way they ought to make basketball play 3 on 3 with just the gaurds and small forward.

Didn't hear anything conclusive...Gannaway wasn't there, but John Elder from the Illinois Coaches Association was there. He said changes were coming and to not plan your summer schedule yet. He said there should be an official press release in a few weeks.
