All colleges each winter send out for video on any colleges teams in the country. One staff I worked for got the top ten in every special team category, passing, rushing, etc. College video coordinators have their own little fraternity like regular ball coaches and the exchange all the time. Why is it that some colleges will not give out any cut-ups to HS coaches? I am not bitter. A lot of schools have been very willing to help me out. Just curious to see if anyone had a reason for those who do not.

It's called paranoia, Head coaches are paranoid that their film will fall into the wrong hands like their big rivals. What I ahve done is gotten to know some video coordinators from around the country, and then asked them if they could send me some film of some teams. They are more then willing to do it, all I have to do is take them some beer when I show up during spring practice.

i might be overthinking the situation but how exactly do you go about contacting schools to get cut ups from them? I am intrested in some wishbone cut-ups from a school I have never contacted before and want to make sure that I do everything right. Any help is appreciated

Coach, I usually call the main football office and ask the secretary which coach recruits my state (if I don't already know them). I then introduce myself. Tell them I am very interested in learning more about whatever it is I am interested in. I tell them I would love to get to their campus but that just isn't feasible. I then ask if I was willing to send them a couple of tapes and a self-addressed envelope would they be willing to send me something.
They usually say no problem and that they would love to help.

Why wont they give stuff out? Because it could cost them there job. I KNOW HS coaches who will get something from one school and turn around and give it to their opponent to use against them. Best time to ask is when you "got one that they WANT". Then just ask for what you want or bring some blank tapes when you visit them or go to their clinic and you will magically get it in the mail. Other than that TAPE their games off TV if your that interested in what they do.

You dont think that college coaches know about these websites and how their playbooks and cutups are being traded around the internet. I know a HS coach who asked Urban Meyer for cutups of his offense and he flat out said we dont give out film. The HS Coach that was asking him already had his 2003 and 2004 Utah offensive cutups in his possesion before he even asked Coach Meyer.

haha, you dont think uga knows exactly what the gators have done in prior games each season? they know each other so well, it doesnt matter if a high school coach secretly sends a film to a rival - besides, they have the tape anyway. each conference has rules and guidelines about exchanging film. for example, usually you get the last 4 the next opponent has played, or ones you request. on top of that, they have every game that they have played against them in prior seasons. they probably could even prepare without the film anyway. theyve coached with and against each other, know each others style, know what offense they run, know what defense theyre going to be in.
the reason he doesnt want to do it is because hes got better things to do. he wants his ga's doing work for him, not some high school coach in idaho he doesnt know.
but there are plenty of schools out there that will be happy to help you out - just call and ask. you dont have to call up florida to get film on a particular system, either - call someone else who runs it.
