We use the tape that they use on the gym floors for temporary lines. It holds and doesn't leave the glue mess on the helments.

We use a p-touch label maker. No residue and it's much easier to read than the athletes handwriting.

We always used athletic tape and then wiped the helmet down with a little bit of denatured alcohol.

Coach, we've used regular masking tape for years. No mess, very easy and inexpensive...

We bought some labels from our Riddell rep last year that pealed right off when it was time to clean the helmets up for the season. Well worth the money we paid. I think I got 100 for 20.00??

Not to be a smart azz but why do you have to put names on helmets-don't know who kids are?

Not to be a smart azz but why do you have to put names on helmets-don't know who kids are? Short answer- yes. They're wearing helmets. In my case I don't teach at the school so the only time I see them is at practice. We have new kids: kids up from JV (which practices separately); transfers; kids who never came out before; position changes. Plus, it just helps evoid an embarrasing brain fart with a kid I do know well but just forgot his name (hmm, maybe there is something to that brain damage stuff). If that makes me a bad person and bad coach I'll say three Hail Mary's tonight and try to do better.

We just issue the small number decal that they put on the back of the helmet and I am not sure about the price but they are not very much and we don't have very many problems.
