I need some input in what some of you do for your pre-game meals. We play in the Spring at 6:30pm with about 2 hours drive time. Any advice on how to feed these kids? Thanks, OJW

We always tried to feed the kids about 3 hours before gametime. We fed them spaghetti. In retrospect after talking to some trainers and such I wouldn't do that again. Many I have talked to say it weighs them down too much. My guys have advised sandwiches and such. Easier to digest, doesn't weigh you down as much.
Our pregame schedule looked like this 3:00- on game field for walkthrough 3:15/20- off field to transport to restaraunt (one of our local establishments made the food) 3:40ish- eat 4-4:10ish- back to school to get off feet/watch movie/listen to music/relax 5:45- taping 6:20- specials 6:35- linemen out-warmup 6:55- back in/speech 7- kick {censored}
These times are approximate. I'd have to look up our itinerary for the specifics. Hope that helps. One thing is those going out times are much later than we started with our first couple of games. We went out about 15 mins earlier, but we had way too much time on our hands that way.

We would have spahetti dinners the night before the games. Usually on game nights they would be at subway before the game getting a sandwich.

we teamed with a local sub shop (like Subway) to give the kids a deal of sandwich, fruit, & drink. I wanna say it was $3 a kid...we ordered the Thursday night before.
Personally, I would prefer they avoid refined sugars, processed meats or meats in general....too much digestion required and clogs up the Krebbs cycle.
simple, light meal....
MRP would be a nice way to go (what I did as a player, because I had a weak stomach).

our senior moms take turns cooking team meals on Thursday nights. They usually team up in groups of 2 or 3 and host it at one of the seniors homes. We usually have hot beef or hot turkey with some type of potatoes and salads. Our cheerleaders will host a pasta bar for the players on the week of homecoming and we have a roastbeef/chicken night at one of the local cafe's.

I am at a new school now, but this past year we had a local business cater for us. They came and cooked and had it ready right after school. If we were on the road for a long trip we made other plans.
We had grilled chicken breast Spaghetti Garlic Bread Salad Poweraide
It always worked out good for the coaches because they always over cooked the chicken and there was a good 20 or so pieces left that we ate during the weekend meetings. Well, was good the first 4 or so weeks.

When I played I had a traditon I ate a double whopper with extra everything, Onion rings, and a half gallon of water. I wouldnt do this if i were you I just thought it was funny LOL. The reason I did it is becuase my fav player while in High school was Gilbert Brown from the GB Packers and he ate a double whopper with extra everything before every game LOL so I had to do it LOL.

We play Friday nights at 7 pm. The kids get out of school at 2:15. When we are at home, the pre-game meal(paid for by boosters) is at 3:30. The kids get a small piece of chicken and some pasta, as well as some salad and fruit and a ton of gatorade.

OJW, Eat on the bus when you pull out of the parking lot. Serve cubans, power bars, fruit, and have a couple coolers of Gatorade. Don't forget the big garbage bags.
When & where's the game? PM if you want.

Our parents will also do the pasta meal at 3:00 PM for a home game but we stress to our players that it's the night before meal that is important. This is something I remember as a player in college - the HC for the track team was one of our assistants and he said there was a lot of science to back this up. It stuck with me and we've continued to use it. We also want them to be hydrating like crazy as we are in South Florida.
