There still is one like that and it is in Minnesota. I don't mind it so much since it is an all star game, but none the less it is still kind of silly. It is like giving a baseball team down by 5 runs or more during an inning 4 outs.

We have a "Running Clock" rule. At half time, if the Coach of the losing team, request it, they will use a running clock in the second half. I'm not a big fan of either, but I think that the Running Clock is better than a Mercy rule. We are here to teach kids life, perseverance, and character, never give up… Life has no mercy rule, ….nor a running clock. Anyway before I get to deep..
Calling a game early, to me is more embarrassing than getting beat 60 -3 (…and I have been)

My first year we got beat 82-6. We had to start a 115 lb freshman QB and only had 19 kids suited up to play that nite. It was the wost rain storm that I have ever coached or played in. The other team was up 21 - 0 before they ever took a snap. (K.O. return, INT & Fum returns for TD's.) Their head coach fair caught every punt (we weren't within 15 yards of their return man) and his varsity players only played 12 plays on offense. We saw his 3rd & 4th string kids the entire 2nd half. All he did in the second half was run dive plays in the "A" gap. We couldn't tackle his bench players. It was absolutely not his fault. (we have a 35 point running clock in the second half) I honestly believe he felt worse about it than I did. I think it would be ludicrous to suspend someone like that after a game like that. He even addressed several players on our team afterwards and commended them for not quitting, and playing every snap like they were still in the game. The most amazing part of the whole story is that a female reporter in a town 3 hours from here wrote a scathing article about the other coach and called me to try to get me to say durogatory things about how he coached the game. She hadn't even seen film of it. What a mess. To this day I still have the utmost respect for that coach and his team.
