greg--I am fairly certain if this was any game but the NC game, Pelini would be all decked out in RED.

I agree with that. Anyone else or any other situation, Pelini would be gone. I think coaches need to finish the season and coach the bowl game before they leave for the new job. However, based on the timing of signing day and the long stretch of time between the end of the regular season and bowl games, it's pretty much a necessity they don't.

wolverine...timing, combined with the fact that since the inception of the BCS, all bowl games (except one) are by definition, "meaningless"

I don't necessarily disagree with that, but it is part of the season regardless. I think coaches who are moving on should finish the season is my point. But, that isn't really feasible under the current regulations, part of which you refer to.

also a recruiting tool, as well....
this will be a story during the game. high school players will be watching the game. they will see "the nebraska coach" on the sideline of a national championship game. it brings much needed positive publicity to nebraska which will help the recruiting

Wouldn't that be the case any way. If some one in GA or SC watched the Poinsettia Bowl last night and saw... hypothetically Navy win and the success of the offense, or the team as a whole, would not they have the same response and think...maybe I should go to Ga Tech? I also think it is just moral to finish the year. If you are looking at the long term, what does one recruiting season mean? Greg

Cutcliffe is still coaching UT in the bowl game before he goes to Duke. And Trooper Taylor is staying thru the bowl game before he goes to Ok St.
