What's the strangest thing that you've seen during a football game? For me, it would have to be when one of our guys came off the bench to tackle an opposing ballcarrier. Second was when the bladder blew out of a ball just as the center got down to snap it. You heard this big "Boom" them saw the center standing over a big, round pumpkin-looking thing.

Though I cannot top those...I will chip in.
1. Opposing team's center thinking the QB was behind him snapped it up (QB was in the gun). We recover the fumble. Referee said it was a do-over (his words) b/c if the center and QB botch a snap for that reason it is a do-over. Down and distance over. I was &^%&%& livid on the sideline.
2. I called trap Right and both guards pulled and trapped eachother. The other team's Lbers were keying our guard and ran smack into eachother and our FB scooted through the cluster for a 7 yard gain.

LOL. I got knocked out during summer no-pads LB key drills when one guard pulled left and the other pulled right.

does the end of the Boise State - OU game count? Successful hook and ladder and a statue of liberty in the same game....That ending has to be right up there

Nose Guard jumps off sides before the snap......drops and does 20 push ups right on the field as the ref marks off the penalty.

A dog run onto the field and chase after our 6-2 210lb lineman who is deathly afraid of dogs.

We were up 35-0 and had a cornerback in the game who had lost his hand above the wrist in an accident. So he's in trail technique on a post route and the ball comes his way, he reaches out with his good hand and bats it away--GREAT play. The ref on my side throws a flag and calls defensive holding.
I asked him who it was on and he gave me the # of the kid making the play. I said, "he batted the ball right out of the air, there was no hold!" He tells me "Coach, he had a hold of the back of the receiver's jersey with one hand and batted it away with the other."
So of course I called the kid over (who wasn't offended but laughing at it) and said, "is this the kid you're calling the penalty on?"
Of course the look on his face was priceless and I laughed . . .even when they were marching off the penalty!!!

We had two streakers run onto the field during our homecoming game this year. Apparently, it is usual occurance at our school. The new staff wasn't amused and the HC had to be restrained from tackling them!

A DT doing pushups as the OL comes to the line and gets into their stances. FUNNY!!!
Our kid lining up in the other teams muddle huddle formation.

I cant top a few of the ones so far, but Ive got one a lot of us can probably relate to. We got called for an illegal formation, then the next series, while we were on defense, the white hat stopped play and let the other team (defending state champs....) know that they were in an illegal formation. Let them correct it and then resumed play.
Other than that, a couple streakers, a pigeon that decides to settle on the LOS right before the snap and play had to be stopped, and a backup Senior kick returner who was given a shot to return and ran clear across the field to catch the kick, right in front of his teammate, but mis-judged the ball and had it bounce of his helmet about 30 yards the other way and was recovered by the kicking team.

This didn't happen during a game but during practice. Our scout team OG went in motion! He was to run trap.......he pulled up from his stance and twinkle toed right behind the QB.

punt block for a a td. the personal protector backed into the punter, punter punted it off the back of the personal protector, other team recovered it for a td. now what do you tell the kids after that one.
best one i have been a part of, long hail mary to win the game. it bouches off the defenders helmet and one of our wr in stride catches it for a td.

We had a punt blocked by our protector except he was on the right side of the punter and decided to try and block the rusher comming from the left side so he turned ran in front of the punter and went to block the rusher at the same time the ball was punted. The best was he was reaching out for the block with his arms as it was punted so it really looked like he ran in and blocked his own punt with his arms.

Our opposition lines up for a long field goal. We decide to play it like a punt and stick our returner back there in case it falls short.
He ends up fielding it at the 3 and runs it back for a score. The opposing coach insists this is illegal, throws his clipboard at the official, is removed from the stadium by the PD, and then WE get an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. For what? The returner held one finger in the air (making a number one sign) as he ran into the endzone.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Another one is a junior high player tackling a break away run. Only problem was, he wasn't in the game, he was way too excited on the sideline.

We had a kid who was our version of 'Radio' at a JC. He was in charge of getting the tee off the field after the kickoff . . . . . you can imagine him running onto the field to retrieve the tee and almost getting run-over by the returner as he ran one back . . . . .

few years back in the closing minute of the state final game. i was on the sidelines (actually in the endzone with the media and such) and team A who is trailing by 6 lines up at midfield on 4th and 5. im looking at their formation and saying to myself...."jeez, how the hell do you defend THIS?". they run the play and hit a wide open wr for the game winning td. problem is... after looking at the film, it was determined that team A had 12 PLAYERS ON THE FIELD FOR THAT PLAY!!!! (thats why i was baffled as to what defense team B should be playing!) anyway, the results of the game stood and team A was awarded the title. many people believed that the coach of team A did it on purpose to "see if he'd get away with it"

We played in a road playoff game my sophomore year where we got some lucky help. The other team was driving early and had a lot of momentum on their side. Out of nowhere in the 1st half, a sky diver (who was supposed to show before the game) lands at midfield. The other team gets a 15 yard penalty and ultimately turns the ball over. We go on to win a close game by a TD.

We had a linebacker that was what we like to call special pick off a pass with less than a minute to go with us up by 1. Great deal game sealed, right. Problem was he is also one of our fastest players, after making the pick he was hit and spun around about three times. Once he gains his balance his is in full stride down the other teams sideline to go in for the score. The problem was he was going the wrong way. All the people on our sideline were going crazy and luckily the tailback for the other team had a good angle and pushed him out of bounds at the 27. Really got worried about that one, but it was funny as can be on film (since he did not score).

Playing out of state. Varsity game is over and JV game has begun. A thunderstorm is far off in the distance as the new officials take the field. White hat comes to our sideline and tells the line judge, "If these guys from Indiana try to give you any crap just tell them to go the ?$*@ home." Game starts and the storm is slowly drawing closer but not very close. Home team is up by one because they have NO kicker and made the two point conversion. Third quarter is drawing to a close and we have been told that the game could be called soon when the storm appears very close. At this time the lightning is nowhere near the town let alone the field. As we put together an impressive drive and threaten to score I yell to our kicker to get ready, after the next play the white hat calls the game. Says the storm is too close. Half an hour later it begins to rain.
In the varsity game, we were well in control, up 4 scores. THe home team scored in the fourth on our young kids. We take the ball back and run some time off the clock before the drive stalls. We put and they take over on their own 30ish yardline. Time is almost off the clock, home team throws a deep pass complete then calls a timeout. Next play we drop four deep and they throw a long ball down our sideline, it is completed and out player proceeds to push the carrier out of bounds without tackling him. The player continues to run 7 of the remaining 9 yards out of bounds before re-entering the field and scoring the TD. The side judge explained, "It really doesn't matter, you guys still won." Not the point, call it right.
We don't play out of state anymore!

The other team's TB busting his butt to prevent his team from winning is hilarious.

Another one I had last year was we were on the road playing at someone else's homecoming. In the 2rd quarter one of their students (male) starts running around on the field wearing a helmet and a thong. He must have been a CC runner or something because it took the cops a few mintues to catch him. Eventually he was running past one cop who stuck his leg out and tripped the kid who did a complete somersault before the rest of the cops beat the crap out of him.
I have also seem a gamed called because our kids hurt ALL THREE of the opposing teams QB's. So they didnt have any QB's left to play.

We had a lower functioning player who was a back up guard. He went into a game that was already well in hand with only a few minutes left. The center calls the huddle the play is given and huddle breaks. Everyone gets to the lline but this kid who is standing back at huddle depth with his back turned and his hands down his pants ferociously pulling at something in his groin area. our HC is horrified by this and screams at the kid to get to line. with that the kid finds what he is looking for in his pants and he pulls it out. It was a play sheet that he uses to tell him where to go on plays. He runs to line as he is reading the play sheet the quarterbac gives the cadence and the kid runs the play entirely wrong and results in a five yard loss. Our HC flies into a rage calls a TO and runs onto the field grabs the paper from the ground looks a the sheet to show the kid where to go when to his horror he realized it a defensive sheet. In stunned silence the HC walked off the field without saying a word to the kid and asked me" when is the next honor society meeting"?
