Anyone checked this out?
This is a great article in Sports Illustrated on the Carlisle Indian School, Pop Warner, and Jim Thorpe, documenting how they used the forward pass liberally, singlewingging it, reverses......they just murdered opponents with much larger enrollments.
Awesome story.......they should teach this stuff in history class.

It's a great story. As a History teacher, though, if we taught everything that people said "Why don't they teach this?" it'd be a 6 year course.

Warner was head coach for Goergia and Iowa State at the same time in 1895 and 1896 imagine that! Most of you guys have a hard time keeping one job. lol

When I was a kid I did an oral book report on a book on Jim Thorpe. I dressed up like a Pop Warner and told about my famous player. LOL!

It was an excellent article. It gave me visions of my own undersized team running our Fly sweeps around and through the big bad recruiting powerhouse in our district. I just picked up another inspirational story about the underdog!

The Jim Thorpe Story was made back in the 50's[think it was the 50's]. Burt Lancaster played Jim Thorpe, I believe Charles Bickford played Pop Warner. Story focused on how Thorpe was misused by everyone with a smattering of background on Carlisle and football. Different time, different perspective. SI story is a great life lesson for the kids.
