Rawlings makes football helmets now? Did that just start this year?

do a google search on the NFL's study on helmets. Riddell and Schutt are the best. I would stay away from them until more research and studies have been done.

From what I've heard, Rawlings is coming back in to the market with a helmet that aesthetically looks like an older "shell" helmet but has the technology similar to a Riddell Revo Speed or the Schutt Ion. They're just now re-entering the market so I don't know much more than that.

I saw the Rawlings at our local suppliers equipment show. I sat through the whole presentation as I have fond memories of wearing a Rawlings in college. The ideas in the new helmet look good, but I just don't trust all the air passageways. Certainly nothing that I saw makes me want to spend the same money as an Air XP - which I think is far and way the best traditional shell on the market.

One of the sales reps in my area showed them to me earlier in the year. I think they may have officially came out in December or January. I listened to his explanation and looked at them thoroughly, but I won't take a chance until I get some feedback from others that have bought them. I know of one coach for sure that has bought them for next year.
We did a comfort test ( I know that it doesn't prove that they can work on the field, but 8 of 10 guys thought that the Rawlings were more comfortable than a Schutt XP and a Rev helment.

I saw them. Doesn't make sense to change helmets unless you are going to do all of them. It could get pricey. They are nice but unproven. We use Riddell but If I were to switch it would be the Shutt.

I have to admit I am not a fan of Riddell.
Ever since Revo's came out I have seen more and more concussions.
When I played we all wore adams, and a concussion was EXTREMELEY RARE
I hate the equipment with Revo's, everything is so different from the other companies, once you have it you are kinda stuck with it, until you can phase them all out. You cant mix and match replacement parts at all really.
The bladders pop all the time, some of our coaches even pop them when filling kids up with air, so you know the kids easily do it when doing it themselves. They make the kids look like they have huge robo cop heads. I'm not a big fan.
A couple years ago at my old school, we got a bunch of new Revo's. Every Kid wanted one, 1 week into hitting, over half of them switched back to an adams or shutt because they kept getting headaches.
That said the Rawlings new helmet is just that, its new, not much of an opinion on it. I think we are getting a couple from a rep as a free be to try out. i tried one on when the rep came, it looks nice, but when I put it on, it felt very hard on the inside, if that makes sense. Felt like it was made out of cement, i dont know if that means it is really solid, or that the inner cushioning sucks, I would have to hit somebody in it to figure it out. I guess we will find out a week or 2 into practice.

We've been switching over to the Schutt DNA Pro in phases. Last year we had 20 kids using them compared to the Air Adv and Riddell Revolution. All the kids that used the DNAs said they'd never go back to anything else. All the hitters wore them and we had no complainants of headaches at all. I really think going to a helmet with no foam is the future. If you look at Aaron Rogers he went from a Riddell VSR to the Schutt Air XP. Westbrook the year before after his third concussion wore a DNA Pro when they played Dallas in the last game of the year in '09. I'd like to see the Rawlings it looks better than the Zenith.

Thanks for your thoughts.....I have always liked and bought Shutt...
The Rawlings are going for $180 right now....but they are running a deal...buy 10 and get 2 free...so it is like they are $150....
I spoke with a few area coaches in metro detriot... who got a free helmet last year...3 out of the the 4 are ordering some more....
what it is worth.....
