playbook updates, additions, changes
attend clinics and contact coaches who I want to pick their brains on some ideas.
researching goal boards and player of the week boards to purchase
researching the boot camp concept to end our practices with in our pre-season work in August.
working on our summer calendar
working on email list to send out linemen challenge and 7 on 7 brochures
attend as many home wrestling and basketball games to watch our kids compete.

As an assistant, I don't worry about that administrative stuff. Here is what I try to do in the offseason
Expand Drill and position specific knowledge.
Learn more about 2 other positions, one on each side of the ball.
Push content to my blog - I believe teaching gives me a better knowledge of the subject matter (btw harmless plug, strongfootball.blogspot.com - go now, go often!)
Find new ways to teach "old" concepts in a more efficient and effective manner
Network with other coaches to learn from them and expand my contacts. You never know what could happen tomorrow.
This offseason's special project: Put all my coaching video material on my 2 terabyte hard drive I got for Xmas (70 bucks on black friday at target) and make this accessible to me wherever I go through the internet (accessibility is done, about 80% of videos are too).
Go to 2-3 clinics
Visit at least 2 area coaching staffs (0 so far... Coach Kill going to Minnesota ended one target)
Lose 45lb by July (started counting my calories at least!)

Made this check list a few years ago. I am not a head coach but I made it in preparation for that eventuality. As is the case with assistant coaches that aspire to be head coaches, I do try to do as much of the headers job as he will allow me to do. The last two years I have been working for a HC that allows me to do just about any HC duty I am willing to do. So I actually do use this list as a check-off sheet to remind both myself and the HC of the things we need to take care of in each phase of the off-season.

~Self-Scout our offense by play, formation tendency, down and distance, etc.
~Evaluate strengths and weaknesses of the offense and formulate plans to address them.
~(Per #2) Currently working on learning/evaluating the R4 and preparing to install it.
~Simplify the run game, determine what we "like" vs what we "need" Eliminate things that are not needed.
~Repeat this process for motions and passing game.
~Evaluate position group and begin spring ball open facilities. Begin early evaluation of next year's personal.
~Spend time with my fiance, friends and family.
~Play as much poker as humanly possible whilst thinking about football.

Speak at a clinic this weekend, attend Glazier next weekend; and then whatever else is on coachjd's list of things he is doing. Then start counter rumors about who is really starting at QB next season.

I am in the process of picking up some ringers. Pay off some big ol' Irish Catholic (we're a Catholic school) boys to come on down here and beef up the squad.

Passing my classes so I'm only two semesters from graduating, and studying for two teaching exams this next saturday so I can get certified and try to get a teaching and coaching spot this summer. Other than that, just trying to study some offensive and defensive stuff.
