Today in Kansas, every AD from Every football school in the state is gathered at a meeting in Salina. At 10:15 the KSHSAA will release the new districts for the 2008, 2009 seasons and a mad scramble for everyone to fill their schedule will ensue.
I've never been there, but I've heard it is chaos.
How do your states fill their football schedules?

The state (Nebraska) does all our scheduling. The mad dash comes at 9:00 AM on Feb. 2 (the day the schedule is out) when all 346 schools try to get officials for Friday night.
I don't like having the state do it... We are on power points and 9-0 with a weak non-conference can get you playing on the road in the playoffs... and there is nothing I (AD/HC) can do about that.

I wouldn't like having the state do it either!
One of the main things I don't like about the new way Kansas does things is that it makes it tougher to schedule out of state opponents. With the state setting your schedule can you play out of state teams?

It can be done... but it is tough to do (need a waiver beforehand). We have not (though we are much closer to several SD schools then we are to schools in our own district/conference).

That's our problem too. We're closer to Ok, TX, and NM schools than we are to some of our league and district schools.

Not a lot of HCs are ADs in Kansas period. Maybe a few in the larger schools. Most smaller schools the AD or Principal schedule the games, HC has very little say.

In Arkansas, the Activities Association reclassifies each school every two years based on your enrollment in grades 10-12.
After that, it's up to each conference (which can change every two years) to come up with their by-laws and schedule.
Each school schedules their own non-conference opponents.

Around here most of the ADs are retired coaches who have an extra planning period in which they are AD. We're talking about small schools though. I'm sure for some schools it's the principal or an assisstant AD who is at the meeting if the AD is the head football coach.

Kentucky apparently is like arkansas. Association does new districts every 2 years based on geography and enrollment. You play those teams and schedule your own non-district.

In Wisconsin, we still go by conferences, same conference opponents every year. Lately we've had a lot of realignment, so it's almost like having districts. Some teams have 5 conference opponents, some have 9. Teams schedule their non-conference games (if any), conference scheds are set up for them.

each ad makes their own schedule. usually there is a home and home contract that is done between two schools for non league. adjusting the leagues is impossible

In Minnesota they divide the state up into 8 sections. Then it is predetermined what sections play each other it has been a two year deal for those sections to play each other because each section would get one home game. This year all state quarterfinal games must be played on field turf. So it will be interesting to see if some of the teams do get a home game The state realigns the sections every two years based on school enrollment.

In Georgia, the AD's get together for the region schedule and then each individual school gets 2 out of region games that are scheduled by the school.

Our district schedule is determined by a blind draw. We used to have regional scheduling in which each team submitted a list of regional teams you want to play 1,2, and 3. They'd them match up the numbers. Some of the districts have gotten too big for that, though. We have 4 districts in our region and one has 11 teams and ours has 10. We've gone back to the old way of ADs calling each other and setting up OOC games.

Our AD and HC went to Salina. The AD was more then capable, but i'm not sure our HC trusted him with the schedule. lol I would also like to know where you Kansas guys are from as well... so PM if you get a chance.
