Hey, I'm a Bears fan and I can't help root for him sometimes, especially since he's on my fantasy team this year. ;D BTW dubber, I'm still wondering if Grossman was wearing Griese's jersey yesterday...

How great it is to be a green bay fan! I got tickets to the last game of the year at home against the lions thinking it would be his last game at lambeau. Not anymore! We might have a home playoff game, or maybe even a date with new england come February.

Favre is and was the same player. I'm a huge packer fan, have been my whole life. The biggest reason for Favre's success this season is the emergence of a rookie named Tony Jones and Favre's willingness to throw underneath or take a sack.
In the past Favre's never-say-die attitute was actually hurting him with all the INTs. Now, even on 3rd downs, Favre has no problem just throwing the ball away. Kudos to him. Old dog learned new tricks.

I'll admit that when Brett does retire, I'll shed a tear or two. He is everything that is right and one would want in a football player. He honestly loves the game and isn't in it just for the money like many players. Favre is old school to say the least. How the guy has started that many consecutive games without sitting out is beyond amazing. I'm gonna go see him this coming weekend in Kansas City.

Although I respect Favre I will stop short of proclaiming him the next best thing since sliced bread.
People love the "gunslinger" mentality, but he is a coach's nightmare to work with. McCarthy has reigned him in, but this is not a guy that devours film and is a great student of the game. Remember the three years prior to this one. His groupies that call the games would say that he was being daring by trying to wedge the ball into triple coverage or that he was trying to simply make a play on a team with no playmakers. I'm sorry, but his refusal to work within the confines of the system helped get Mike Sherman fired. I'm not a Sherman fan either, he failed as an HC because his QB did not respect him. Holmgren got the most out of Favre because he scared the living daylights out of him. No that's fine, but not desirable. To his credit he has listened to McCarthy, I think because he has finally realized that protecting the ball and submitting to the system is the only way for him to go out on a good note.

Farve is the best q.b ever to play the game I think he showed the world that you dont need to have 10 super bowl rings to be labled the best ever and his gun-slinger mentality is what got him to the records he has now, he is th most entertaining and probbably going to be the best there ever was even if he didnt have Jerry Rice or Lynn Swann to throw to he did the best with what he had. I also think hell retire when he beats Dan Marinos all time passing yards record!

Best ever QB to play the game? That's a pretty god damn big statement to make.
And when did "most entertaining" mean anything in winning football games?
I think there are way too many great QBs to label one of them as best ever. Maybe one of the best ten ever, but best ever? Come on dude. Move out of Wisconsin and into reality, you'll find more company here.

brett farve is a gamer. peyton manning is a student of the game. brett is a great qb and he is loved dearly in wisconsin. I should know I live there. stat wise he will be the greatest qb for a while. he will have all the records and maybe if he plays two more years put the td record out of touch for manning.
the thing which I love about farve is, he can take a street free agent and make him a great wr. he has never really had the marvin harrison or reggie wayne style wr to throw to.
it was a great play last night and on monday night games farve comes up big.
Farve did not get mike sherman fired. Lets dispell the right now. Mike Sherman brought tom rossley to be the oc knowing full what tom is a vertical passing oc. when you throw deep the changes for ints are bigger. Sherman also got fired cause of mismanagement of the Cap. The packers were sooooo bad off cap wise, they had to let him go as the GM and then the head coach. The GM had a different direction he wanted the packers to go. right now the packers are a top 10 team when it comes to be cap healthy. If farve decided to retire at the end of the seaon, the packers would gain 10 million in cap room to go with the 18 million they are now under the cap. either way, the packers can buy there next starting qb.

Favre, Montana, Elway, Marino, Aikman, Young, Moon, Manning, Brady
All about the same. Any one of them could be argued best ever. But no sense in arguing as they were all great.

Sorry, biggerblue I didn't mean to sound like a prick.
It's just that arguing which QB is the best is like arguing which offense is the best around here. You'll just start a flame riot and everyone will end up hating each other (unless of course you are on the same side).

Mike Sherman got fired because he picked Jamal Reynolds and Ahmad Carroll in the first rounds of the draft. He was losing games not because favre was throwing picks, but becasue favre was throwing picks because he was always playing from behind because sherman was picking sucky players on defense that couldn't play in the CFL let alone the NFL.

Naaa, Sherman got fired because he was more of a coordinator then a head coach. A head coach has to be a leader...he was just an Xs and Os guy.

Well I'm pretty sure his extremely poor drafts and free agent signings had a lot to do with it. Look at the packers drafts from the last 3 years of sherman and look at how many of those guys are on the team or even in the NFL anymore, its not good.

I think it's all of the above. In large part, Coach Mike Sherman got fired for the sins of GM Mike Sherman. I also believe that he wasn't the leader that a HC needs to be and that part of that was his inability to rein in Favre.

The thing for me is this: In the MOST complimentary way, I say Farve plays the game like an Offensive Lineman! From his heart. Incredibly tough, proven that he is human with his mistakes, takes ownership of those mistakes and doesn't try to hide them. Open and honest, just wants to play well and WIN!

I also believe that he wasn't the leader that a HC needs to be and that part of that was his inability to rein in Favre. I agree with this. I mean I think the one valid knock against Favre is sometimes he wants to win TOO much. He's a gutsy, wears his heart on his sleeve kind of player. You love him on your team, but he needs an authority figure at HC to, as phantom said, rein him in. Compare this with the Cowboys under Barry Switzer - Aikman and some of the other leaders on that team essentially took charge. But Favre's a great, gutsy guy. It's true too that he hasn't had great receivers. If he'd had a great coach and great receivers for the second half of his career he might have pulled in another ring. I admit that I had kind of decided that he'd gone off the deep end in the last few years (I mean he DID lead the league in interceptions and nearly set a record in doing so!) but he's playing great and the Pack looks good. I also love the Pack's new aggressive D. Get in their face and press them!
