I think the only thing that would aggravate me personnally is when people CHARGE for their "system"..... To each his own, nothing wrong with it, I guess...but that, to me, is kind of ridiculous. Are we talking about anyone in particular, brophy? Not me....but I find it kind of ballsy to start selling videos like " Play Guitar the Brophy Way".....when all I'm doing is showing you stuff I ripped off from Eddie Van Halen.

Football is a game of blocking and tackling. I think ones "system" reflects his personality. Any system will work as long as the coaches and players buy into it. I coach in a small school (about 120 in HS), and our style of players go through cycles. when the "big boys" are varsity players, we may have to line up and run over you. When the "big boys leave" and the "little quick guys" get in school, we will have to do something different. Very rarely do you have size and speed both in a school my size. Learn all you can, you never know when you may have to use it. As a result, I have used Wishbone, Spread, single wing, Triple I, Wing T, and double slot in the past 20 years. Excellent observation ... it HAS to be true that most schools - large and small - go through cycles and have to adjust if they are to remain competitive. Sometimes, of course, no amount of adjustment makes chicken soup out of chicken poop. A long time ago someone told me: a good coach fits players to his system, a GREAT coach fits his system to the players.

I totally agree ... there is not much new under the sun - in fact I believe all "NEW" systems are just adjustments of tried and true football methods. I have to admit thought that I am willing to pay for something that is clear and concise and all in one place - even if it is not "new". I also am willing to pay for disks of articples, drawings, etc. that are compiled from a variety of places. After all tinme is a resource and if you come along and offer me cd's and dvd's of stuff others put up for free but YOU took the time to put it all together for me I figure I am just paying for your time - and that is often worth something to me. But thats just me.

I can show you a book my junior high coach used (I'm 52) called "Split-T Football" by Jim Tatum, the old Maryland and Oklahoma coach. in it he diagrams the "TCU Spread Offense" which is the shotgun 2x2, and two of the pass patterns in it are the "Smash" and "Post-Wheel". The book was published in 1956. And the offense is drawn against a 4-2-5.
Also, I think if a guy takes the time and his own money to do something up professionally (get it printed or make a DVD), I don't have a problem paying for it. We're all professionals and are time is worth something.
However, I'll share anything I have with anybody that asks for free, too.

Drink the kool aid and go DW!
Wait...LOL, now this is a great thread.
I am sending a check to brophy (4 easy payments of 49.99) for his "Face Melting Defense". And if you are one of the first 100 coaches to order, he will throw in a free set of Ginsu Steak Knives, and as a special bonus, 1 half eaten bologna sandwich!

i think its all about insecurity. people try to hard to say our stuff is the best because they don't really belive it themselves and nee someone to say "yeah thats awesome!"
i just try to say this is how we do it, no more no less. right, wrong or good, bad; thats for you to decide. its the people who make posts judging their own stuff are the ones who wear me out.
if you think the stuff we do is good, thats great and lets keep talking about it. if you don't agree, thats great too. it takes all kinds and there are a ton of things that work out there, otherwise we would all run the same stuff.

Loch, I don't know how I missed this thread the first time but I'm still laughing. Heck, even my wife is laughing and she can't stand this web site.
But I did do a search on all of my 200 + threads looking for the "arrogantmoron". This topic has been a great reminder to me that its not about the "System". It's about whether or not the Coach knows how to fix any and all parts of the system when they're not working.
Again, thanks for the reminder gentleman. If you have any questions or looking to trade. I'm looking for some Urban Meyer stuff on how to attack a 3-3-5. You can e-mail me at whenindoubtpitchit.abc.com

I think too that as good as some system may be (and personnel aside) not all schemes work for all people. I can appreciate a 3-3-5 or 3-4 defense and have seen the good things you can do, but for me I still don't like the defense and would have a hard time embracing it and teaching it. I'm a 4-3 guy and love the way we run it, but it just wouldn't work for other guys, even other 4-3 guys. It works for us, I'm happy to share it, but I can't guarantee that anyone will have the same success with it.
What I think is funny is when you go to a clinic, listen to one guy talk about how to play a certain scheme, then walk into another room and listen to a different guy teach the scheme or technique in a totally different way. Both believing that their way is the only way.

some people think there is one and only way
that's why it annoys the mess out of me when people that think they are end all be all of football start spouting off about any other way than they do it being wrong
it aint wrong it's just different
