Larry Coker wins 80% of his games, including a national championship at Miami, never has a losing season.
Dirk Koetter has a winning record at Arizona State, beats his in-state rival (again) Saturday, after being 'THE' hot young name in head coaching talk just a few years ago.
Dan McCarney builds Iowa State (IOWA STATE!) into a respectable D-I program, including five bowl games in seven years.
Now, we'll see all of them (and probably a few more) in the unemployment line this week.
The annual D-I blood-letting has begun. Isn't enough $$ in the world...

Well...it comes down to, what have you done for me lately?
GUARANTEED if all of the off-the-field stuff that happened to Miami this year happened back in '01 or '02, Coker wouldn't have lost his job.
Thing is, when these guys are getting paid 7 figures a year to win games, it is not surprising when the AD pulls the trigger when things start to go south.

Yea it is crazy. But at least at that level their jobs are in the hands of guys they recruited. In HS, our jobs are in the hands of 15-17 year old boys.

I would let them buy me out for a lot less, a lot sooner!
I'm pretty sure my state pension isn't going to be one-time $567,000. Or actually, even total that much, unless I live to be 234!

Here is a link to Koetter, looks like he IS on his way out....Tough one to call, he has a winning record, will be going to the 4th straight bowl, but many feel that ASU could be a goldmine. Tempe is a great area, great weather, good facilities. Who knows, wonder who they could bring in? www.azcentral.com/sports/asu/articles/1126koetter-ON-CR.html

Bowden at FSU should consider himself very lucky. For an asst coach to get a buyout is almost unheard of. The sad thing about the division I coaches is when the header is let go, so are all the assistant coaches. The head coach will get some kind of ungodly buy out and the assistant coaches will get what is left on their contract. The college coaches that I know have contracts for one year that run from Jan 1 to Dec 31, so now they have to find a job and figure out how to pay the bills in January.

I was not aware of too many assistant coaches with multi year contracts, thought most were yearly for the coach's sake and the university. Not to mention with the Booster club buy out there was not a non compete clause, he could be working for his Brother at Clemson next.

Big salary means big expectations. Koetter has done well but has made some poor decisions (QB controversy). Coker lost the team last year when he caved into the admin and fired long time assistants. I'm disappointed these guys got the ax but they'll land on their feet. Also many schools have gone to July to June contracts for assistants just for these types of firings.

Will the Rutgers H/C leave...? Isn't that the big question now?
No doubt, I'd take a 6 figure buy out in a heart beat!

ESPN is reporting that Cincy's coach Dantonio, the former DC at Ohio State will be taking the Michigan State job, and that Central Michigan's HC, Kelly will be taking the Iowa State job....

I think that Schiano is a great coach, but he is also a young and ambitious guy...if he leaves Rutgers for the Miami gig, does that make him a bad guy? I don't think it does. I'm sure he has some kind of early-out stipulation in his contract if a job at a more prestigious schools opens up. What about The Old Ball Coach going to Miami?

rutgers HC is a former Miami asst coach Yep, and, in college ball, timing is everything. Schiano's stock is very high right now. If he has ambitions to move up (and I'm sure he does), he would be foolish to pass on an opportunity to return to Miami. What happens if he waits a year and Rutgers is 7-4 next year and then they drop to 5-6 the year after and he ends up getting fired a year after that? A lot of people might say that there's no way that would happen, but, does anyone think that Larry Coker would have ever been fired back in '01?

And Mike Shula just got the axe too.....
I agree with Wildcat - Schiano's stock is very high right now, and this would be the time to jump ship...

If I was Schiano, I would stay at Rutgers but try to milk the interst in him into a huge extension and pay raise. And, if Chizik is going to Iowa State, I hope he keeps his speaking obligation at a clinic in Chicago. I'm looking forward to hearing him.

More buzz. Rich Rodriguez is on the way to Alabama. WVU wouldn't up his assistants' salaries and improvements to facilities were put on hold. Who would uh thunk it?

Well, if he ends up speaking and I end up going (not definite yet), sure!! And, just now noticed, Dan McCarney was supposed to give what looked like a good speech as well

I'll start by making it clear that I'm not from Jersey and that I'm not a Rutgers fan. If the Rutgers administration has committed to football it can be a good job. There's great talent in Jersey and there's only one D. 1 school in the state. I understand that they have good administrative support and great facilities. He's also making good money. If Schiano, a Jersey guy, likes living there why shouldn't he stay?

These schools are ridiculous. Last year Alabama was what, 9-0 and ranked #3 in the country? All of a sudden in a rebuilding year they go 6-6 and everyone panics. What do they want from a guy who took over a program in shambles that has had a coach vow to stay then sneak out in the middle of the night, their next coach resign over a strip club incident and that has been on and off of probation for close 5 or 6 years? Anyway, I think Schiano to Miami makes a lot of sense, but if he wants to stay at Rutgers why not? He has some good talent coming back and they are only going to improve as a program with him as the HC, IMO. Rodriguez to Alabama is an interesting move, I would be surprised if he did it and I wouldn't if I was him, but you never know it sounds like a possibly on the this board.

Hey Coach - which clinic was he going to?? The Glazier Mega Clinic? I deleted my clinic E-mail a few days ago, and I did not see the schedule, but I too, would look forward to hearing him talk. Brophy - I can take notes and post them...if you can read my typing
