We complain about the talking heads a lot, but I really like College Gameday on ESPN. I love looking at the signs and today they have some good ones. One said "Mangino Hearts Cupcakes" Another said "ESPN: Obesity Lives Here" Yes its shouldn't be funny to poke fun at someones weight. But you gotta chuckle when you think about the size of Mangino.

I don't know about that! I like Corso and Herbstreet and those guys. They are intelligent and don't call everything the wing T or wishbone.

"Our coach can eat your coach". "Honk if your HS Team played KU". Lots of good ones.

Not so fast, my friend... Game day is one of the best ever. Knowledgeable and entertaining. They also, in my opinion, do not play favorites, but seem to tell it like it is - or at least as I see it.

About the ony one that I like from ESPN is Kirk Herbstreit. Reminds me a lot of Dean Blevins from Oklahoma's Channel 9. Both are very football knowledgeable!!

Corso and Herbstreit are great; I love listening to them commentate on games. I also like listening to Lou Holtz during games; he's a SO knowledgeable and I think he's a friggin riot too.

okay.....so in a meangingless Notre Dame game (go Harbaugh!!!) I witnessed a 15 minute diatribe about how a defensive player should've been ejected for such a vicious hit on a quaterback. chalk this one up to the "the further away from the field you are - the easier it looks" , because I cannot see what is so 'unsportsmanlike' about this hit on a runner. [gvid]-2072569189043682449[/gvid] video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2072569189043682449&hl=enNothing intentional nothing malicious if you don't want to get hit......just go down. I guess this is just another example of how easily our perceptions of the game are changing to what we think is 'normal' or realistic within a game.

I don't know how you got the video so quick, but I fully agree. I was yelling at my TV because he barely even went helmet to helmet. His facemask hit the top of the other guys helmet, he didnt' lead with it. These announcers have been annoying me all game. From the one guy breaking down what standford needed to do in the offseason to make the field hold together better. Its football not the home and garden network.

I have always been of the thought, if you dont want to get hit dont play football.... this game is a violent contact sport, if you cant stand the heat stay out of the kitchen!!

C'mon guys, he really should have been ejected for........ "being too nice" , if you knock the guys helmet off, at least kick it or hold it up as a trophy, cmon! Where's Jack Tatum when you need him?

OK First I have to say I love game day. Second I feel The ND kid should of at least got a penalty I thought it was a huge it to the head. I don't think it was intentional, but still give him 15. the refs did a horrible job Jimmy gets a head bunt after a play and both teams get a penalty also I want to know what the hell the booth was smoking. David Grimes caught the ball for the TD one of the greatest catches this year it was obvious his hands were under the ball and they over turn it. IMO challenges have been a joke this year. By the way ND Champions next year we are on fire! ;D

Naw "c", that QB saw the guy coming and tried to duck under the hit, just didn't get down quick enough. He caused the defender to make contact where he did. Either stay up and deliver a blow or get on the ground, don't half do it! Go Irish

buckle your chinstrap right and don't go running downfield looking to slide down like a weenie I think there is a big proliferation of players that do not tighten up their chinstraps or buckle them all up on purpose. Why? I have no idea. We have kids in 8th grade that purposely don't buckle all four spots (in violation of rules) precisely because they're trying to emulate players in college and the pros that do it.

Why? I have no idea. We have kids in 8th grade that purposely don't buckle all four spots (in violation of rules) precisely because they're trying to emulate players in college and the pros that do it. I wonder about this too. And one thing that surprises me these days are college and pro QBs who still use the flimsy chinstraps with facemasks that don't protect their chins. You need the better padding. Watched the Pats-Eagles and Feeley was wearing like some Joe Theisman chin strap. I once got drilled under the chin and quickly learned my lesson. Peyton Manning's facemask looks stupid but I don't think he'll lose any teeth any time soon.

Oh, and I like Gameday. It's better than the NFL Live show or whatever it is. They run fewer fluff pieces and generally try to call it like it is. Herbstreit has become a pretty boy and Corso is a goof but both really try to know and analyze football. Sometimes I think Herbstreit gets in a little over his head with his analysis (he's not Ron Jaworski) but they do a good job.
They had a solid piece this past weekend with Rodriguez. Was short but he showed like three bread and butter zone-read/option plays. Nothing new to anyone on this board but was the real deal.

Should be a penalty to the Qb for not using the proper equipment properly. I see this all the time. I think they should have players removed from the game for at least a play, just like after an injury to have the equipment looked at. Can you imagine the lawsuit someone could file for knowingly allowing a player to play with faulty equipment. What might the implications be if later on in the game the Qb suffered a career ruining concussion to his brain or spinal chord?

Good point orr but as coaches it is our responsibility to teach and make sure that they wear the equipment correctly, if they refuse we should remove them ourselves, especially if it is pointed out to us!

Am I the only who notices the Washington State flag in the background on gameday EVERY single weekend, no matter where they go?
I want to meet that guy that has enough time to do that.

Oh, and I like Gameday. It's better than the NFL Live show or whatever it is. with the exception of gillian ... she does it for me (although, this season, she seems to have dressed more "professional" and less ... ) gameday seems too "packaged" .. almost the same "skit" each weekend. the wearing of the mascot head has worn thin -- turn the page, already. but, the college guys seem to make more sense than the nfl guys. maybe, because of the diversity of the college game, the number of teams/players that there is more to discuss and, therefore more interesting.
