Wow, it was an incredible week. I can barely walk & have no voice left. The smile on face feels glued in place.
Our boys had an experience they will never forget. We had 6 practices in 2 days, just not enough to prepare a team. All the players were a joy to coach. We had 3 players from Panama, who had limited English, who where very good football players. Every player there was extremely talented.
Yesterday, Joe Gallot(President of AYF), came to me before we boarded the bus to ride to the Tropicana Dome. He told me I was named AYF National Coach of the Year(All American Division). I was overwhelmed with emotion & gratitude.
The Coaches from the West squad were great guys & I really enjoyed my time with them. They had a squad of some really talented athletes, who were also great kids. I really had little or no interaction with "Prime", but he was great with the boys.
The game was a blast. We won the toss & took the ball. It took 4 plays to score, Power for 65yds. On the next series we turned the West over, scooped & scored. 1st qtr 14-0. We made sure to get all players plenty of play. The west squad really tightened up on D, they were blitzing from the stands. We did what a spread team does & used our quicks & screens to score on a nice drive. It was 22-0 at the 1/2.
The west opened the second 1/2 with a nice scoring drive. We responded with a text book drive exploiting holes in the coverage. 30-8 midway 4th qtr. On the very next series our D got another scoop & score to put the game away. Final Score 38-16.
