There are two rival high school's in the same city, one Head Coaching position just opened up. The vacant school has much better facilities and a few better athletes but has been down for a few years. The thing is some people have made overtures to the rival's HC from the other school to come over and take the job. He is contemplating the move. What do people think of this type of thing happening? Does anyone know of this type of thing happening. I know assistants do it all the time but Headers?

Evaluating how interested another HC is in their own opening isn't that unusual, and I don't think the two schools being located in the same town changes that dynamic a whole lot, if at all.

Wolverine55,
I agree. My issue when I heard this was that the HC is an employee of the school that is not open. He has not been there that long but both schools are in the same district and fall under the same umbrella. That was thing I never heard of.

Similiar situation in a town close by.
One school has won 8 state championships, the last coming in 2006. The other has won 8, but the last one was in 1995.
Nowadays, you can win consistently at one school, as they've been in the state championship game 3 of the past 5 years. At the other school, not so much. Haven't had a winning season in over 4 years. The job at the "lesser" school came open this past year and a lot of people wanted the top assistant at the other school to take the job but the AD wouldn't hire him.

This certainly strengthens any rivalry that all ready exists between the schools. I've heard of this with assistants leaving to take a Head Coach position. But not header at one school in town to the header of the another school in the same town.

I don't have a problem with it. If the schools are in the same district, I don't know that the one school can pay him more money than he's already making. But if he feels the other school has a better chance of success that will make him a more attractive candidate for future gigs, then so be it.

Also if both schools are in the same district why would one have better facilities then the other? Thats something the district should already have addressed- the physical plant should be very comparable as should how classrooms, gyms, weightrooms, etc are equipped.
