Its currently halftime of the Army-Navy game. I love this game so much. with my father serving in the Navy for 20 years and my cousin currently playing for Army, i couldnt help but get choked up at the beginning when they did that bit on who Army and Navy are playing for.
its also an option clinic, which is awesome.
My question is, does anyone else think this is the best rivalry in sports? any other thoughts? i argue so because of the importance of it every year regardless and the example it sets on being competitive while still having good sportsmanship.
I constantly use the service academies as examples for my kids and encourage them all to follow them throughout the season.
Hope you're all watching and enjoying as much as i am.
and Go Army beat Navy

It's a game I try not to miss every year. One of the most storied rivalrys, always pride on the line for both teams.... it's an example of the best of college football.
Go Navy! Beat Army! (from a USMCR veteran)

I also love this rivalry. Many argue that because of the lack of national prominence of the two programs athletically that it is not as big as some of the others, but as for the purity of the rivalry and the guts typically displayed by this one, it is a huge as they come. Great Rivalry.

I think they are getting the prominence back with their option offenses.

I enjoyed the short piece about Don Holleder that included an interview with his daughter. His story is a great example of what the military academies are all about. www.coachwyatt.com/BLaward.htm

After meeting the Navy coach at last years Nike COY clinic, I made it a point to try and watch as many of their games as possible. Storied rivalry and a great example to the kids.

Great rivalry! The whole atmosphere surrounding the game is incredible. It's good football, the cadets are present, military personnel around the world are watching. This rivalry regardless of the talent level on the field is what college football was about when the programs were powerhouses. Today, this rivalry still proves what college football is all about.

At some point, I'm going to watch this game in person. Watching those fellas do what they do, I get a good feeling about where our country could still be headed. Also makes me wish I'd considered playing at one of the academies a bit more.

Makes things a bit complicated.

I played in the Army/Navy game three times. Although I came out on the short end of the stick each of the three years, I was honored to strap it up in that game. I would try to describe the feeling and passion that surrounds that game, but I don't think I can. If you haven't been there/done that, I would suggest taking one in before you die.
Funny story. Before I got to West Point, I played in the Little Army/Navy game at prep school. We hadn't beaten Navy in years. 14-7 in the 4th quarter with about 2 minutes left. Our offense takes it down the field and ties the game on a run with about 5 seconds left. We set up for XP to tie the game and send it to OT. Holder bobbles the ball, scoops it up, dives over three defenders and hits the 2 pt. conversion to go up 15-14. The place went absolutley wild. Cadets running on the field. Got hit with a 15 yrd. penalty, our coach was livid. On the kickoff, our kicker hit a squib kick and busted a kid in the front line in the head, we recovered, game over.
Probably my greatest experience on a football field....ahhh the memories!!!!

I enjoy this game, takes me back a bit to my youth... It's also usually a treat to enjoy an afternoon of well-executed option ball, shame that this year we couldn't really use the term "well-executed."

As someone who has had Pitt season tickets right next to the visitors section for a decent number of years, I've met a lot of Navy fans/vets over the years who come in for the game. Always by far my favorite visiting fan base and marching band. When Tony Dorsett broke the all time college rushing yards record in Annapolis, the cadets all threw their hats in the air to celebrate. *That* is classy.
My dad was Army, so I always root for them, especially now that Navy has this damned winning streak against them going.
Always watch this game. Makes me think I should take the old man to Philly to watch one of these games while I still have the chance.

My dad is retired Navy so I grew up watching this game.
Starting this year I am backing Air Force, the 2010 winner of the CIC Trophy. My son played for AF Prep this season. They had their most successful year highlighted by a trip to play Army Prep at West Point.
I am looking forward to seeing a lot of service academy games over the next four years.

Great topic! I think all players should have to watch this game and the effort that both teams put into it. Every year I watch!! No quit in these teams. They may not be better than their opponent athletically but they bring the heart and soul! I can watch Army and Navy verses any teams and enjoy no matter the score.
