If you had an opportunity to sit down at a table with 4 other HS/College coaches (could be HC, OC, DC, or ST, any position), who would you pick and why? What would you ask them?
I'm just curious to see who the different coaches around here look up to or who inspires them as a coach.
(I picked HS and College only because most of us here are either only HS or College coaches...but if you feel you need to pick a pro coach, be my guest). ;D

HC: fbdoc DC: phamtom OC: spreadattack ST: coach mikell
I assume you were refering to coach who are not on Huey's but as a foreign coach, I have to admit that those guys are some of the ones who inspires me as a coach since I log in...
(Also, I do not know enough college football coaches).
brophy, huey, mariner42, OJW, jpgordon are also coach I would strongly consider...

If I had the opportuntiy to sit down with 4 other coaches to pick there brains and have a lengthy conversaton with them, right now I would choose:

Rick Trickett Jim Tressel Alex Gibbs Nick Saban
I can get scheme stuff at clinic and the web........these guys could give me more "how" knowledge than anyone else.
IMHO, no one on this board would know who Rch Rodrigeuz is if not for Rick Trickett.........
Jim Tressel on how to run a program.
Nick Saban for secondary defensive technique and adjustments......plus game management.
I would give my left nut for a day with Alex Gibbs.

HC: Pete Carroll. I know he's in the NFL, but I'm mostly interested in his USC program anyways. OC: Toss up between Roger Barta and John Curtis. DC: Robert Andrews, DC at Greyson HS in AL. Seen some clinic stuff he has done, really like his system. ST: Beamer. End of discussion, imo.

Let's see; Urban Meyer for program building Alex Gibbs...OL play...like was said before, he probably knows more about this then anyone has forgot Tony Dungy for leadership of men and the "Tampa 2" Monte Kiffen for all things defensive
If I could get the Deloran going id pick Lombardi, Don Coryale, Don Faurot and Bill Walsh

- Larry Kerehs, Mount Union College HC on developing a program that is so consistently good (IMO as consistently good at his level as anyone else has been able to develop) -Saban, his focus and attention to detail are just Insane, and I feel like his defensive players make more plays on the ball in the air than anyone else...like to know drills, tips, etc.. -Rush Propst, on HS program development -Tony Dungy on developing quality people.
A close 5th would be Lane Kiffin, on why he is such a tool.
If I could have a time machine I would talk to Erk Russel from GA Southern about building a program from scratch and somehow getting kids to take pride in swamp water and yellow school buses that still brings about a toughness and nastiness thirty years later that you might not find anywhere else in college football.

Chris Petersen - I would love to know how he does it year in and year out, the execution, the recruiting, the machine like efficiency , everything!
Barry Switzer - I think it would be a kick in the behind to chat with him.
Dick Tomey - Desert Swarm Defense.
Chris Ault - He's a HOF'er. Bet he's forgotten more that most coaches know.

Irregardless dead or alive?Vince Lombardi. You probably don't know who Vince is if you didn't include him Tom Landry, The engineer of America's Team. Heard him speak at a clinic before he passe. He's actually hilarious and SO knowledgable. Bear Bryant, On how to take chicken $hit and turn it into chicken salad. Bill Walsh, The ultimate organizer and stickler for doing things exactly correct
Alive? My reasons for the following should be obvious if you've followed the game.
Bill Parcells Chris Peterson Jim Tressel Bob Ladoceur

Bill Bellichick- A schematic and motivational / development genius George DeLeone- Anone who can (and DOES) talk for 3 hours about how to execute a base block would probably have a few worthwhile nuggets to share. Bear Bryant- Exceptional at developing a program and building players Rob Reade- Augustana head coach during their huge run. I bet he'd have tons of interesting things to say about practice organization, off-season philosophy, etc.

Jim Tressel - Just knows how to get people to buy into his program. Tony Dungy - Makes players into better people in so many ways. Mike Martz - Growing up as a Rams fan, watching what he did with the Greatest Show on Turf still baffles me today. Would love to hear his ideas and philosophies on the offensive side of the ball. Alex Gibbs - Offensive line genius, enough said. Like has been stated already, probably forgot more about football when he woke up this morning than most people know.
Others would have to be Gus Malzahn, Bob Ladoceur, Brian Kelly and Chip Kelly.

How about Shula? Holtz was raised in Ohio, born somewhere else though (I think WV)...I completely forgot about Don Shula which is odd because I almost went to John Carroll. You could also add Jon Gruden into that bunch, while Ohio is a dying state they have produced some pretty good coaches...unfortunately I ruined that streak!!!

Believe it or not my old HS coaches are still coaching. I'd include them but there's no need since I talk to them a couple of times a year. Here are a few, living and dead, who I'd love to talk to:
1. Lombardi- I'm a lifelong Packers fan plus, hell, they named the trophy after the guy. 2. Rockne- Dude lost 12-count 'em-12 games in his entire career. 3. Eddie Robinson- Talk about building a program, this guy literally built Grambling's plus built a lot of men. 4. Bryant 5. Fritz Shurmur- Old GB DC had a great reputation for tayloring his defenses around the available talent. 6. Buddy and Rex Ryan- Learn a lot about football and have a lot of fun.

Living/dead:
Bill Belichick because like lochness said he's a schematic, motivational, and developmental genius.
Bill Walsh for attention to detail, pedagogy, general offensive knowledge, the WCO, program management, scouting, etc.
D. Lebeau for fire zones and general defensive knowledge.
Nick Saban for program management, motivational techniques, general defensive knowledge, pattern matching, and secondary techniques/skills.
Alex Gibbs for offensive line.

Great idea for a thread!
Though there are tons of college coaches I'd like to sit down with, ie Lou Holtz, Paul Johnson, Ken Neomotololo (sp?) High School coaches would probably be more relevant to me.
1. Gordon Elliott - Auburn HS, WA: 3-3 stud. Does consulting for Oregon State and Washington on their nickel packages. Also a unique double wing package guy. Found him at Glazier last year. 2. Bruce Kay - Cary-Grove HS, IL: 3-3 stud. Flexbone triple option guru. They won the state title in '09. No BS guy who is also the school AD. 3. Brian Stortz - Lake Zurich HS, IL: Another 3-3 guy with a similar offense to mine (double wing jet sweep). Has quietly become one of the top IL high school programs. Runners up this year. 4. Mike Lalor - Stillman Valley HS, IL: public school who has won 4 state titles since '99. Runners up this year in a close one. Just gotta know how he does it!
