Coaches,
How do you view your film responsibilities regarding highlight videos for prospective college players?
Do you simply provide film for your players to cut and compile on their own or do you make the film?

We use DSV so ours are done online and fairly easily. Mostly the individual coaches try to tag the main players highlights when grading the film. Fortunately, we have a coach that is our ISS teacher he is able to help if any of us out if we are falling behind.

With the DSV, how do college coaches preview? Or do you construct them on DSV then burn them onto a disc?

You can send the final HL video in an email through DSV. What is nice, when the player is done creating the HL film on his own the players highlights are listed AUTOMATICALLY in the coaches account. So the coach can preview them. Then the coach can send them out. What I do, personally, is this.... 1. Player or myself and the player get the cut ups together. 2. Then we sync the cut up online (unless the player has created the cut up online) 3. EMAIL THE PLAYER'S HIGHLIGHTS TO MYSELF 4. The I get the players transcripts (in a PDF) from our Director of IT (who happens to be our DE coach ) 5. Then I forward the final email to the HC. He gets the players video and transcripts in an email....to which he can forward out to hundreds of coaches at one time. Pretty easy process.

I have had more than one college recruiter tell me they want an entire game film- not highlights- anyone can look good in cutups. They want to see them when they are away from the ball- do they hustle etc...

We use HUDL and I make all highlight tapes. If/When it comes to game tapes, I suggest 2-3 games and then make the kids pick what they feel is their best 1-2 games or even halves. I burn'em & they send'em if I can't email it. When it comes to school contacts, I make the kids do the research for contact names, emails, phone #'s, etc. and give me a typed list.
As far as the highlights vs. games...I always start with highlights as far as gathering interest. After that it all depends on the recruiter/program and at what level of a program they are, but in general I see more and more going with highlights. Most say they can tell in 5 minutes of viewing video anyhow what the players skills sets are...then it's a matter of sizing him up physically in a person-to-person meeting. I would imagine that 1-A schools would utilize game tape a bit more...

1) We have the players pick out their own highlights online through Hudl.
2) The coaching staff then narrows down the player's list. The players always seem to include every clip that they did well on. The coaches pair it down to 3-5 mins. Many of our players take advantage of the Premium highlight feature. For $25 they can add spot shadows, custom music tracks and trim the front and back of the clips.
3) We share the highlights and full games with recruiters through the Hudl Recruiter feature and/or create DVDs for them.

Mav, Is it relatively easy to burn a dvd from Hudl? It couldn't be any easier. In the Hudl Editor, open the playlist(highlight, game, etc), click Export, then choose DVD.

HUDL RULES!!!!
It has literally made my life easy.. I have about 6-7 legit seniors who need hi-light films.. It was so easy on HUDL the players made them theirselves mid season and one at the end.. Before December every player had their hi-light done and I did not have to do anything (they would do them with their parents and I would review it..).
Also I am able to get the link off of HUDL and forward it to over 100 coaches. Coaches can copy and paste the link online and watch hi-lights too...
Years past it would take me hours and hours and days to do hi-lgihts... HUDL is really the best!!
