Do you show to your positions or just view as a staff?

WE video but not near enough. Early in the year or even in camp we try to video tackling drill so the kids can see what we're trying to coach. We try to video 1/2 line stuff as well as team stuff but as I said, we don't do it enough. This year I hope to change that.

We will watch it as a staff and show it to the kids either that night after practice or the next day before practice or after practice.

Our head coach films from the lift that we rent for the season.
He likes coaching from up high above us all.

We tape our Live Pass period, team O, Perimeter, Inside, and Team D. I will watch it and pic and choose what to show the kids the next day. We are limited to about 20 mins a day of film so I can't show them everything but I try.

beauty of dsv.

I do the exact same Coach Huey. DSV is an awsome system. Now I use the cowboy clicker they offer with my computer to watch the video.

even at the jr high/middle school level I tape every practice, at least any scrimmage portions. its the best tool i have to evaluate what/where we are making errors and what we need to work on the next day. its also a great tool for rewinding and saying "see that johnson, you missed the double team there..."

Now I use the cowboy clicker they offer with my computer to watch the video. have you seen the new practice version they have? we purchased it and it's going to be great, i can already tell. basically a suped-up ODK system that allows you to tag specific segments of practice. you set it up however you choose. functions separately from the main program (it's a stand alone program). we're excited about trying it out this spring. look into it. it's not very expensive.

I have filmed practices for a long time, filming team offense, goal line offense, team pass offense, & team run period. We used to also film defensive team & goal line at the school I used to be at & I am trying to convince our head coach that we should do the same. I usually meet with the team at least once a week to show practice & the rest of the time, I will make notes & go over the corrections before practice. I also will meet with my QB each night & go over the practice film.

I have questions :how do you use pratice film? for evaluation only? Do you see film with players?do you make special session?when do you make feedback after de repetition ,the practice, or before practice?

I just take the film home and watch it at night...then i tell em what they did well adn what we need to work on in the following practice. i often email my coaches in the am with a list of guidelines for the days practice based on what i saw...ie my rb coach might get "work on carrying ball in outside arm, stiff arm and carryign out fakes til echo of whistle"...then my dline coach might get "work on stances" etc.

Do you have a student trainer that tapes practices or is it one of the coaches?

Do you have a student trainer that tapes practices or is it one of the coaches? we recruit "filmers". these students are basically a manager but #1 priority is to film. after filming, they upload the film to the computer & label it.

"I would love to film practice, but we cant even get two guys to film the flippin' games much less practice!"
get some slappys that are hurt - good candidates are the ones with the phantom hip flexor pull, tight hammys, and mild "i have a headache" concussions. more serious injuries, and seniors, shouldnt be used. its hard to physically punish horrendous filming if hes got a torn acl, not to mention you kinda feel guilty about watching him struggle to do pushups. but you need some form of accountability, youd be surprised how many seemingly intelligent human beings who cannot film a practice suddenly find a hidden talent when theyre done sweating. furthermore, you can give them service hours, and be a humanitarian and help the community when he wins an award for an ungodly amount of "volunteering".

you guys must have no hobbies or like anything but football.
no wonder coaches have such a high divorce rate.
i can see filming evey inch of a pro practice and maybe at d1. high school though should be about fun.
when practice is done, I walk away until the next day.

you guys must have no hobbies or like anything but football. This is what my wife says (she's great). I always say I like to golf and hunt some... In the past I have filmed about 1 day a week. This year I am going to film on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

We find an injured or sick player or we just designate a underclassman because it's important to us & the team knows it. We find time after practice at least once during the week & we go over any mistakes before practice on the other days but everyday I will go over the film with my QB & I will take notes to go over the other day & make sure it's covered on the next days script.
